As Christians we believe we are called to stand against injustice, hatred and exploitation, which we feel is increasingly at odds with maintaining an active presence on this platform.
"The rights of the Eritrean people are not a matter of negotiation or political convenience – they are universal, inalienable," the Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in #Eritrea, Mohamed Abdelsalam Babiker, told the @UN Human Rights Council.
#HRC59
#Eritrea event: panellists discuss ongoing violations & impunity, including enforced disappearances & incommunicado detentions of journalists, critics & religious followers, and transnational repression/attacks against the diaspora.
10 years ago, the #COI on #Eritrea found that crimes against humanity had been committed in the country since 1991. Unfortunately, no adequate follow-up has been mandated by the @UN_HRC. Avenues such as universal jurisdiction should be explored to help Eritrean victims/survivors get redress.
10 years on, Eritrea remains “a country ruled by fear,” where indefinite national/military service is used as a key tool of repression & enslavement. Military service is accompanied by multiple grave violations, including forced labour, torture, & sexual violence against women & girls.
Reprisals against those who evade draft or go into exile are also directed at family members in the form of house evictions & withdrawal of food coupons — nullifying the regime's narrative on economic, social & cultural rights vs. civil & political rights: all violations are intertwined and mutually reinforcing.
The Special Rapporteur’s mandate should be extended at #HRC59. Read the civil society letter: https://t.co/z4KvPQqTWD 🇪🇷🇺🇳
#Nicaragua: Unfortunately for the Ortega-Murillo regime, the mounting evidence of egregious violations won’t just magically disappear because it has walked away from engaging with the international human rights framework.

🍀 Freedom of Religion or Belief and Rule of Regime: A Global Citizen’s Perspective 🍀
The Fight for Freedom of Conscience in China: Why Freedom of Religion or Belief Matters for Everyone
We are back!
In our last human rights workshop, we invited NGO practitioner Rose to share her experiences on freedom of belief and human rights monitoring in China.
This time, we take a deeper, structural look at the intersection of religion, authoritarian regimes, and global politics.
🌟 We are honored to welcome our guest speaker:
Benedict Rogers
Benedict Rogers is a renowned human rights activist, former journalist, and founder of Hong Kong Watch. He is active with Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) and serves as an advisor to the World Uyghur Congress and the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC).
For over 30 years, Ben has focused on freedom of religion or belief (FoRB) in China and beyond. He is the author of The China Nexus: Thirty Years of Confrontation with China, and recipient of the International Religious Freedom Summit’s Award for Champion of Effective Advocacy and the St. Thomas More Award from the International Catholic Legislators Network (ICLN).
📖 Questions to Reflect On:
•How is freedom of religion or belief connected to other human rights issues?
•Why does the Chinese government allow certain religious practices while trying to erase others?
•In what ways does religious belief challenge authoritarian systems?
📢 🙌 New participants are especially welcome! We aim to create a friendly, inclusive, and diverse space where everyone has the opportunity to share thoughts and experiences.
🔒 China Deviants puts participant safety first. We have a zero-tolerance policy for threats, harassment, or discrimination. Our team will be present throughout the event to maintain a safe and secure environment. If you have any concerns, please contact us at any time.

So proud of my brilliant @amnesty team for this research, and for showing those who risk facing transnational repression that they are not alone. Read “On my campus, I am afraid”, on #China’s efforts to target and silence dissent by overseas students: https://t.co/mziWcsOTIr
Looking forward to tuning into this X (Twitter) Space conversation tomorrow hosted by @NigeriaCsw. Really important. Really timely. An exceptional panel lined up. https://t.co/fSEHVMsK7l
.@AmbXieFeng, @MFA_China, where is #ZhangZhan? Why hasn't she been released yet? #China domestic, intl law violated in baseless prosecution of her. Don't compound that by failing to release her, or releasing her into endless surveillance, harassment.

The unfortunate but apparent reality is that European democracy is not yet sufficiently mature enough to distinguish “religion” from the “human right to freedom of religion or belief”. Read more: https://t.co/QCug9X2Axj

Appointing reckless #Brexit referendum instigator Cameron as Foreign Sec is a democratic embarrassment. If Sunak can’t even find one of his 350 MPs to take on one of the most important jobs in Govt, why on earth should this party be governing at all? We need a #GeneralElectionNow
