Alhamdulillah, I had the simplest Nikah yesterday with zero pre-wedding pictures, not because I didn’t marry a beautiful wife, in fact, my woman is Arab. Zero music, dance, or parties of any kind, not because I don’t like parties or I don’t have the money or I’m a saint, but because it’s not my religion. And I married because of religion so I must act according to the religion for the marriage to see religion in it.

Back to your question. The reason you are not getting that royalty treatment in Lagos comes down to the completely different psychological landscapes of the two cities.

For instance, Abuja runs on a slower pace, heavy political structures, and a dominant Northern cultural footprint. In such an environment, a full hijab or khimar carries immediate social weight. It signals high values, modesty, and often a certain class or background. People notice it because it aligns with the local social currency.

On the other hand, Lagos is a hyper-capitalist melting pot where survival and the daily hustle override everything else. Lagosians are deeply desensitized because they see every version of humanity on a daily basis. When people are navigating insane traffic, dealing with the economy, and rushing to open their shops, outward appearances fade into the background.

It is not that Lagosians disrespect the outfit. They just genuinely mind their business to a fault. Unless what you are wearing is blocking their path or affecting their money, you are just another face in the crowd. At least they did not rape you. Thank God 😅
