This new discourse surrounding Hamaguchi’s stance on not changing FF7 Remake story due to fans or popularity is very confusing to me… because the vast majority of Tifa and/or Cloud/Tifa fans I’ve seen want the game to stay exactly as it always has, with embellishments. They’re not the ones asking for sweeping changes to the story “just because”. Even if there are those that have wanted that, I’ve never personally seen any fan of Tifa’s character claim that the only reason she gets anything she does is because of popularity or fan request. She gets what she gets because she’s an important character to the story of the game.
Its the people celebrating Hamaguchi’s words to mean that Tifa will not get any elevated importance in Revelation who have only ever claimed Tifa only gets anything because she’s popular (only in the West of course can’t forget that) and the devs are caving to capitalism and shit.
How has this been twisted around onto Cloud and Tifa fans? Stop with the perpetual victim complex and own your own words.
So which is it, does Tifa only get any importance in the games because she’s popular with the fans or are the devs never gonna cave to popularity and therefore she has never gotten anything ever and won’t in Revelation either. I swear this fanbase gets dumber every day… all to get around admitting the fact you can’t stand that this fictional character is important to the story.
FF7 Revelations Director Hamaguchi says that public opinion does not sway the development team's creative vision for the story, regardless if fan opinions want the team to change something.
His full quote:
"I think story driven media isn't the kind of thing that you do by committee. You don't put it out there and see the fan opinions and change things and tweak it. It's about that creative driving force behind the initial storyline.
So although I do look at what people are saying about things, particularly when it comes to storyline, I don't make any changes based on, 'Oh, this character seems really popular, I have to treat them better, I have to give them more focus.' I don't do that."
However, he does go on to say that in terms of gameplay, it is important to listen to fan feedback for that to constantly improve the battle system or mini games for a better experience.
Hamaguchi showed the FF7 Remake series trailer for the first time ever at FFXIV EU FanFest, and it's such a beautifully made trailer that made me tear up.
Even Yoshi-P compliments saying "wow this series is truly so well developed."
I cried omg, we've come a long way😭

@aerithsclouds hi (: my entire feed is FF7 now lol so I’m happy to see your name again. you’re all good in my book. i never saw it as that deep to begin with. i apologize things have gotten so personal, for both of us. passion in fandoms is always tricky. but unity over division, always. 🫶
for no reason whatsoever, I decided to google the definition of tourist. turns out there’s usually a “duration” strongly associated.
learned that tourists stay in a destination for a temporary period of time, ranging from a single day to a few months max. interesting stuff (:
