#LGBTWIP day 5 - tropes

Well, THE APOCALYPSE BRINGS OUT THE BEST IN PEOPLE, obviously.

The Switchboard Operator is currently struggling with being THE WATCHER.

So why are so many apocalyptic stories about folks who so quickly reach for violence and us-verses-them narratives? Why is it always about building a stronghold and not something sustainable and liveable?

Where are the gardens and the farms? The weavers and woodworkers and art?

Day 5 of #LGBTWIP was inspiration...

Crossing Wires was inspired by our frustration in the apocalyptic genre always telling the same people’s stories. Where were the survival stories about people who already work to survive in our current society? And where is the community?

We were influenced by some favourites of the genre (WORLD WAR Z for the storytelling style, LOVE IN THE TIME OF GLOBAL WARMING for the queer found family and the vibe, found footage films...) and from seeing how humans so often want to forge connection in crisis.

We also finished season 2 of @inn_between_ this week, and oh, it was a good one. A really lovely ‘end’ for a group that has grown so much over the two seasons they’ve been adventuring. Excited to see what’s ahead in season 3~

We’ve been sampling a bunch of episode ones this week, trying to pick what to listen to next, and it’s so hard to pick, everything is just so good.

The Stormchaser saw the movie Twister at a young age and never got over it. He pointed at that movie as a kid and said ‘I’m gonna do THAT one day’ and then he grew up and Did That. Truly powerful dedication and focus. What a nerd.

The Archivist was entirely inspired by the audition Brenna sent us. They did not exist until then (we left space for characters inspired by auditions), and when we heard Brenna’s audition we fell in LOVE and made the character on the spot.

The Scout loves classic mystery books (like Boxcar Children and Babysitter’s Club mystery specials) and also comics like Lumberjanes, which is totally not why she went to Girl Guide camp in the first place, no way.

(Also why she always keeps an eye out for river monsters)
