And what of the scoring sir?
Simple. We will base it around a word everyone understands…Par.
How many is a Par sir?
Mostly four but also three and five.
And Par is good?
Yes
So to be above par must be really…
Bad
Sir?
Below par is good, above par is bad. Sub-par can mean either.
Will there be names for the other scores?
Under par scores will be named after birds, where one under par will be called a “birdie”. And over par scores will be named after bogeys.
What is a bogey sir?
Nobody knows. But one over par will be a bogey, two over par will be a double bogey, and so on.
Ah, so two under par will be called a double birdie?
If only it were that simple. Two under par will be called an eagle, for it is an auspicious bird that heralds good fortune.
And what of three under par?
An albatross, which is of course a symbol of grave misfortune.
That seems rather strange.
You may also call it a double eagle.
Wouldn’t a double eagle be four under par?
One would think, but no.
This seems like a lot to remember. How will a person keep track of their score?
For professional tournaments there will be score keepers and computers. However, for the official score we will rely on what your playing partner wrote down on a piece of paper.
And if that person makes a mistake you fail to notice?
Immediate disqualification. For this is golf— a game of honor and integrity with arbitrary rules & customs that shall be most strictly enforced. ⛳️
If you had to pick one person that would actually pull a stunt like this, it would be kuchar. Unbelievable commitment to the bit of being the all time worst. Almost have to tip your cap
