@TheFaccey@JamesDeroest@CycleOrpington And that's just one example from last year. It wasn't as if DNA testing wasn't available in the 1980's. The police simply beat a confession out of him.
If we still had capital punishment, he would have been executed.
Perhaps you should follow your own advice.
@TheFaccey@JamesDeroest@CycleOrpington And despite all of those advancements, we still end up with wrongful convictions due to the human element in our justice system.
Peter Sullivan who was released last year, spent 38 years in prison after being wrongly convicted of murder.
@JamesDeroest@CycleOrpington "Yes we got it horribly wrong multiple times in the past but we won't make the same mistakes again. Honest 'guv'"
Not exactly a compelling argument.
@MandyOfSteel@acier_jean@AndrewHulshult@valvesoftware Former id Software employee here - a lot of the time, you wouldn't have known we were not an independent studio under Zenimax. Their touch was fairly light - beyond approving budgets and marketing, there was never a "corporate wants us to do/doesn't want us to do X" situation.
OTD in 2012, sister Voyager 1 made her final transition from the region dominated by our Sun's solar wind into the region dominated by the other stars' cumulative winds: 'interstellar space.' For the first time, we were measuring particles mainly from other stars.
The measurements are from the LECP instrument, and the oscillations in late July and August show the buffeting nature of the boundary as it billows out from the Sun and then is pushed back by interstellar pressure, with the boundary moving back and forth over Voyager 1 several times. The August 25, 2012 transition occurred at a distance of 16H:51M light-time from the Sun, or about 121.6 AU.
Voyager 2 encountered this boundary in 2018 from early November to early December, but the boundary was smoother and closer in: from 16H30M to 16H32M, or 119.0 to 119.3 AU. Both crossings occurred during solar sunspot cycle 24, with the V2 crossing possibly occurring at a quieter time.
@JazRignall The Master System had some great releases near the end of its European life-time. Sonic 2 came out the following year, and whilst I still preferred the original 8-bit Sonic by Ancient Software; it was pretty amazing ( as was Sonic 3! ).
Finally cleared away my Doom & id Software memorabilia from my home office. Was starting to feel a bit weird keeping it around.
Time to move on, and soon I can make it official on what I'll be moving on to next!
@dagle_erin@Realcoinforge Ahh yes....the "Europe doesn't need to spend on defence" fairytale that MAGA tells itself to justify why their quality of life is so bad.
New flash: US military presence in Europe has nothing to do with defending Europe, and everything to do with US global power projection.
@gordoslair@g04tn4d0 Absolutely love this game.
It could have done with a bit more play testing - it's stupidly difficult. But then again the game isn't very long; so I guess they had to make sure it took a while to beat.
@UridiumAuthor I had a similar issue with a pet project many, many moons ago - my solution was just to have a palette look-up in a shader uniform/constant ( making my art all 8-bit ) and then branch depending on the scan line the shader was executing on the desired effect.
@JazRignall Always thought the Alien 3 game was pretty good, despite it having very little to do with the movie itself. The eventual Terminator game was ace as well, but who ever did the play testing on the Master System version needs to be put to death by kittens - by god it's hard.
@falco_girgis Only one game on DC that I worked on was released - and even then, it was a close run thing. Nothing spectacular or flashy though - Chicken Run ( all formats ).
@JazRignall Loved UN Squadron, but it bothered me at the time that, what would have been a grey import was the main cover feature rather than a game that was widely available for UK gamers.
But I guess that was the whole point of having it the main feature.
@TaylorArluck@sethharpesq Eye Of The Storm by the biography of ex-SAS trooper Peter Ratcliffe. He spent most of is military career in the regiment, taking part in the Falklands conflict and the Gulf War.
There's not a lot in there about Schwarzkopf, but he does mention his dislike for special forces.
@GiftOnFilms@marvel_updat3s Perhaps that's what we'll get with the conclusion of the Secret Wars arc. After all it's how Spidey originally ended up with the Symbiote.
