A campaign started by a group of Black women law students to spread awareness about how COVID-19 is impacting incarcerated folks in Illinois. #FreeThemAll
Remember in the spring when various networks were activated bc things seemed/were so dire for ppl inside due to COVID. Well things are worse-we’re just more used to it.

My friend is dead. Just got the news today. I am crushed beyond words. He died in this prison because of #COVID19. He had a family. He helped others get out of prison. He was an incredible human being. Now he is dead because our politicians wouldnt act. This is murder.
Here’s a quick podcast with a breakdown of COVID-19 in Illinois prisons, and the lack of testing available for incarcerated folks. (starting at the 5:00 mark, dated July 7th)

My attempt to draw national attention to crisis in US prisons. Thnx to @MiamiHerald @jkbjournalist @MarshallProj @propublica for cited research. #PrisonState People are dying in US prisons, and not just from COVID-19 https://t.co/k3DaReszQl
The reason we have a #covid prison problem is because we have a mass incarceration problem.
We have to urgently & drastically reduce the prison/jail population—not these tiny, politically driven releases.
There’s no way we have 2.3 million people locked up who are irredeemable.
Over the last few months I’ve been listening to terrified calls from jails & prisons across the country. Reading sworn declarations. Speaking to family members. Jails aren’t reporting what’s happening. Not just the numbers. The violent indifference to human suffering.
Your friendly reminder that COVID-19 continues to take the lives of people who are incarcerated. Social distancing is not possible in prisons. We need to continue fighting for their release
Father's Day is a good day to remind people that all phone calls and video calls for incarcerated people should be free in every prison and jail across the country. Not just during a pandemic, not just during holidays, not as a special privilege. But for everyone, all year round.
Hundreds honking and waving signs at a car caravan circling Cook County Jail, responsible for 15.7 percent of all known covid cases in Illinois, demanding we #DefundCCJ
Amid growing calls from activists, a group of aldermen announced they would introduce a plan to end the agreement that allows Chicago police officers to work inside Chicago public schools. https://t.co/F84zKMPP1x
To our family locked in Cook County Jail and detained throughout the state, we want you to know that , “We love you, we, we love you!” #DefundTheCarceralSystem#FreeThemAll
New research has found that nearly one in six cases of COVID-19 in Chicago and Illinois can be connected to people moving through the Cook County Jail.

Chicago’s jail has one of the worst coronavirus outbreaks in the nation, but that didn’t stop the city from holding people in the jail for multiple days because of a shortage of ankle monitors https://t.co/IoZWHl1Pop
We encourage you to donate to our partners in the
@BailFundNetwork who are prepared to pay bail for people arrested at these demonstrations.

Judges and Governors are presiding over a genocide in prisons. Openly. They do not care. Every cop who makes an arrest, every DA who files a charge, and every CO who doesn't open the gates is complicit.
