BMW has angered customers by sending ads for the new Spider-Man movie directly to in-car infotainment systems. An ad appears as a notification when starting the car, and when tapped, it plays a full-screen 19-second video.

In response to complaints, BMW said it's "not an ad" and is "part of a broader brand partnership with the film."

BMW's original press release said: "To celebrate the partnership with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, BMW has a special surprise for its drivers. Starting the car brings up a special banner in the Control Display."

Cars built after July 2020 with BMW Operating System 7 or newer are displaying the Spider-Man promo in more than 70 markets. Sure sounds like an ad to me 😂

@pitdesi This is a cooler ad than the stuff BMW drivers have been getting for ages for Sirius subscriptions, adding digital features, going to the local dealership for some tire special, etc. People go out pf their way intentionally to watch movie trailers
