Égbé beré, Ugo beré, ma nke si ibé ya ébena, nku kwaá yá!!!
My cousin got married years ago, and I remember something his wife said that shocked me.
She told him they would not build a house in his hometown.
Her reason?
They didn’t have a male child yet.
At that time, the economy was still good. Building materials weren’t as expensive as they are today, and my cousin was financially capable of starting the project.
But he listened to his wife.
Years later, she became pregnant again.
This time, she gave birth to a baby boy.
I honestly thought that would change everything.
It didn’t.
She still refused to let him build in his hometown.
This time, her reason was different.
She said she didn’t want a situation where, one day, his brothers would start claiming ownership of the house.
I understood her fear to some extent.
But then we heard something that made me start asking questions.
Apparently, he had built a five-bedroom house in her own hometown.
I was like… wait.
So building a house in the wife's hometown is okay, but building one in hisown hometown is a problem?
What makes it even more confusing is what happens whenever they visit the husband's hometown during Christmas.
This woman, my cousin, and their four children can stay there for two weeks or more.
And all of them sleep in a single room.
Four children.
Two parents.
One room.
For weeks.
And that is an old house built by his late father
And I'm beginning to wonder if this is really about the fear of losing the property to the husband's family.
Because she once said something that has never left my mind.
She said that if her husband died someday, their children would never step foot on their father's land again.
That statement honestly scared me.
Because why would a mother already be thinking about keeping her children away from their father's home?
I don't know what goes on in their marriage, so I don't want to judge her unfairly.
Maybe she genuinely has a reason for everything she's doing.
Maybe she's protecting her children.
Or maybe there's a bigger plan that nobody in the family understands yet.
But from the outside, the whole thing doesn't look normal to me.
If you were in my cousin's shoes, what would you do?
Would you build the house anyway?
Or would you respect your wife's concerns?
And honestly…
Do you think she's genuinely protecting her children, or does she have another plan entirely?
Good morning mutuals ♥️
It's a new day and a new week and I pray this week brings abundance of blessings and favours from people we weren't expecting.
Have a nice day.
