I think this is probably one of the biggest adjustments the fandom has to make. BTS are not in the same position they were years ago. Their audience is wider, their cultural reach is bigger, and naturally, the amount of scrutiny, discussion and projection around them is bigger too. That means not every negative opinion can be treated like an emergency, and not every discourse requires a full-fandom response.
That does not mean becoming passive or pretending genuine racism, misinformation or serious issues do not exist. There are situations that deserve to be addressed. But emotional maturity is being able to tell the difference between something that actually matters and something designed to provoke a reaction.
I think power requires discipline. The bigger BTS become, the less the fandom can afford to operate from a constant state of panic. Sometimes the most powerful response is a correction. Sometimes it is one well-made post. Sometimes it is strategic promotion. And sometimes, genuinely, it is to laugh, troll and move on.
Some of the language I’ve been seeing this past week in a nutshell:
I’m doing this because I love you.
I want you to be better.
You need to learn.
We need to humble you.
We need to make sure you understand what you did.
You need to apologize.
We made you who you are, so you owe us this.
READ THAT LANGUAGE OUTSIDE OF FANDOM FOR A SECOND. Does it sound familiar? We’ve heard versions of those things in real life toxic relationships. We’ve heard people justify controlling or humiliating someone by saying they’re doing it because they love them or because it’s for their own good. I’m NOT saying Army and BTS are in an abusive relationship. That’s actually the point!! YOU AREN'T IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM AT ALL. There’s a difference between a boundary and control. Saying you don’t agree with their actions, so you're withdrawing support, is a boundary. “We supported you, so you owe us different behavior, and we’re going to pressure, humiliate, protest or punish you until you give it to us” is an attempt at control, and at this point, what apology would even satisfy everyone? Speak now and it’ll be PR. Speak later and it’ll be “why did you wait?” Say too little and it won’t be enough. Say too much and people will say the company wrote it. Stay silent and people will say silence proves everything. If they genuinely reflect on this and decide they want to address it, that’s their choice. If it makes them approach something differently in the future, that’s their choice too, but pressuring someone into an apology just proves the pressure worked. It doesn’t prove the apology is sincere. Seven men can't live according to the individual moral expectations of millions of people who don’t even agree with each other. You control whether you support them, stream them, buy tickets, stay in the fandom or leave. What you don’t control is what they must believe, who they must associate with, what lesson they must learn, when they must speak, or what apology they must give. And with that, I think I need to take a little break from all of this. I’m honestly tired of opening this app and seeing the same discourse every day. It’s been a week🫠
If you are ever worried about the future... these are all top comments under his log
If the sentiment was shared across the fandom, there would be comments there too. Yet there is nothing. The pathetic little anti⁷ bullies in the quotes celebrating the views count never watched his content because they don't know this is his normal views, they actually even move faster than his festa log. Just like these people don't know BTS' song lyrics even for BTS' most famous and most recent songs.
People were and weren't disappointed both, but for nobody normal this will ever make them stop loving, supporting him, erase everything good he did.
The parasocial twitter bubble is smaller than you think, and heavily fueled by antis who see and easily access all of our tweets through Today's News headlines. If you have any doubts, just go ask other armys who don't dip here. I did, and every single one of them presented with options picked that they will continue supporting him as before even if he doesn't issue a public statement regarding this
The most powerful part of this decision is that they are no longer asking to be accepted by the industry. They already know their worth as artists and understand that they deserve nothing less than everything they have built and earned throughout the years. 👏💜🔥

Absolutely huge and brave for @BTS_twt to stand up to an institution like the Grammy Awards, one they clearly have so much respect and admiration for, to stand up for what they believe in
1000% respect

Just want to say BTS never stopped anyone from winning anything, and that became the precedent last night. You had 4 years and 3 months to change the course, to dominate, to get that AOTY nom too.
BTS took 6 DAYS to take it back. 6 days.
