What is a tree?
At the launch of #WorldWideWood, CIFOR-ICRAF joined @googlearts and partners around the world to celebrate trees, not just as part of nature, but as part of who we are.

You planted a tree.
A bird built a nest.
A child found shade.
A river ran clearer.
The air got cleaner.
A forest began to heal.
All because of one small act.
🌱 Never underestimate the power of planting just one tree.

The fascination in nature is the realisation that when we relax, everything around us is at work to give us the basis for life. This fact alone should fill us with gratitude and treat nature with respect and kindness 💚🌿☘️🌱🌲🌳🍀💚

“A tree is our most intimate contact with nature,”

If you’ve ever felt lost, try this; stand beneath a tree. You’ll remember where you belong. 🌳🌏
It takes about 450 mature trees to offset the annual emissions of one person. Now, I know what you're thinking: "That's a lot of trees!" But don't worry, I'm sure we can find a way to make it fun.
Imagine, if you will, a world where every time you flew, you had to plant a certain number of trees to offset your carbon footprint. You could have your very own "flight forest"! Every time you take to the skies, you'd be helping to create a lush, green oasis. And let's not forget the added bonus of having a place to hide from the in-laws during the holidays.
Now, let's get down to the nitty-gritty. How many trees would you need to plant to offset the emissions from your flight? Well, that depends on a few factors, such as the distance of your flight and the type of aircraft you're flying on. But let's just say you're flying from New York to Los Angeles. That's about 2,445 miles. Give or take a tree or two.
If we use the 450 trees per person per year as a rough estimate, and assuming you take one round-trip flight per year, you'd need to plant about 0.00018055555555555557 trees per mile. So, for your New York to Los Angeles flight, you'd need to plant approximately 441.1764705882353 trees.
Just remember, the more you fly, the more trees you'll need to plant. And who knows, maybe one day we'll have forests growing at the end of every runway.
So there you have it, a fun fact about how many trees it takes to offset the emissions from flying. Now go forth, my environmentally conscious friend, and plant those trees!

If we don't care for the Climate today, then when?
If we don't plant the trees today, then when?
If we don't stop plastic pollution today, then when?
If we don't protect the oceans today, then when?
There is literally now time left.
We need action.
If not now, when?
