@SenateCA Do not pass C22. Why won't the govt listen to it's citizens? No matter what party you support, no one wants this. This is absolutely disgusting that @MarcMillerVM and @gary_srp are allowed to run around and ruin our beautiful country without any consequences.
Bill C-34: Government officials are reportedly considering digital ID as an age-verification solution.
According to privacy expert and law professor @mgeist, government officials told participants at a technical briefing that they are exploring โleveraging government ID systemsโ for age verification.
The language of Bill C-34 requires affected social media platforms to prevent minors from creating accounts through age-verification or age-estimation measures. Australia has pursued a similar model. But government officials are now contemplating a different possibility: Canadians proving eligibility through government-operated digital ID systems such as the Alberta Digital ID, BCeID, or perhaps even a future national digital ID.
This may never materialize. But the fact that government officials are considering government-controlled digital ID systems as a gateway to social media access should concern every Canadian who values freedom of expression, access to information, and privacy.
More to follow.
@Too674234497@Nachez98 Fair enough for your first point, but not sure about the second. I don't know how you can call strolls crash human error and not leclercs. The track was damaged and I think that had a lot to do with it.
5/ There's an official petition to withdraw C-22, sponsored by @NDP MP @JennyKwanBC . More than 2,600 Canadians have signed.
Add your name, and share this while it's still at committee: https://t.co/U9Bi5kqqkC
To all the confused Canadians out there who think Bill C-22 is a good idea, allow me to explain this in a way you may understand.
Imagine the government tells you to wear a mask to prevent the spread of an infectious diseases. Sounds kinda reasonable.
Now imagine the same government then says these masks must be made from used pillow cases, to protect the environment and help curb the spread of racism because pillow cases were used by the KKK to make hoods.
This is what Public Safety Canada is essentially doing right now with Bill C-22 (and C-9).
@Safety_Canada Why isn't the govt listening to everyone being against this over the single lobbyist group that is pushing for it?
Where can we even make our voices heard? I've already signed two petitions against it, but I will gladly sign more.
@ZPostFacto That's very true. I'll have to keep on looking, or maybe it's time to start up a new project. I haven't done that in a while but it could help me lay down the framework for it which is always the most daunting stage for me anyways!
