英雄也是血肉之躯。我们不能苛求一个人一旦成为英雄，就必须永远站在神坛上，永远无所畏惧，永远不可战胜。

黄之锋并不欠这个时代什么。从十几岁反国教、投身雨伞运动，到一次次走进法庭、走入监狱，他最风华正茂的岁月，几乎都耗在了高墙与铁窗之间。他付出的代价，早已远超一个普通人��能承担的限度。

而在原定刑满前夕，当局又给他加上一项可能导致终身监禁的重罪指控。这是一场漫长而残酷的消耗战。一个年近三十岁的年轻人，在无休止的司法绞杀面前选择退后一步，希望为自己和年迈的父母留下一线生路，这是人性最真实的本能，无可厚非。

真正应该受到谴责的，不是黄之锋是否足够坚强，而是那个把一个年轻人一步步逼到绝境的极权机器。

专制最阴险之处，恰恰在于：它先用国家机器摧毁一个人，再让外界用最苛刻的道德标准审判这个已经遍体鳞伤的人。

我们若把焦点转向受难者，就恰恰帮极权��成了它最想完成的事情。当然，这并不妨碍我们向那些坚守到底的人致以最高敬意。

年近八旬的黎智英，本可以在海外安享晚年，却选择与香港同在。他面对强权，抗争到底，宁可承受漫长铁窗，也不肯低头，展现了一位自由主义者最傲岸的脊梁。

邹幸彤同样如此。她拒绝求情换取自由，以屈服换取宽恕。她宁愿承受“罪犯”之名，也不愿背叛自己的良知。

他们的坚守，是穿透极权黑夜最耀眼的光芒。我们理应敬仰。但敬仰英雄，不等于要求每一个英雄都必须走到同样的终点。黎智英有黎智英的选择，邹幸彤有邹幸彤的选择，黄之锋也有黄之锋的伤痕、恐惧、父母和人生。

我们可以敬佩那些宁折不弯的人，却没有资格站在安全的地���，指责另一个已经付出巨大代价的人。

尤其不能忘记，他们是在为谁承受苦难。

三十多年来，当大陆无法公开纪念六四，当无数中国人被迫遗忘那段历史，是香港人一次又一次点燃维园的烛光，替大陆死难者守护记忆，替无法发声的中国人发声。黎智英、邹幸彤、黄之锋以及无数香港抗争者所守护的，也因此不仅是香港的自由，更是华人世界共同的自由、法治与人的尊严。

所以，我们不要苛责那些曾经替我们站在自由最前线、如今正在为此付出沉重代价的人。

因此，我们要铭记邹幸彤的坚贞，敬仰黎智英的傲骨，也体恤黄之锋的伤痕与无奈。

我们只需要守住最起码的同理心与常识：分清谁是真正的施暴者，记住那些倒在泥泞中的身影，感恩他们的付出，并持续不断地为黎智英、邹幸彤、黄之锋以及所有良心犯的自由呼喊。

只要记忆不灭，那一束替所有人点亮的微光，就永远不会在高墙内熄灭。

On Monday, three judges - Esther Toh, Alex Lee, and Susana D'Almada Remedios - all handpicked by #HongKong Chief Executive John Lee from a list approved by #Beijing, will sentence #JimmyLai under the National Security Law.

As this exchange shows, even after detaining him for most of the last 5 years in solitary confinement, they could not break Jimmy's spirit on the witness stand.

Canadians with Hong Kong residency rights do not need Chinese visas to enter China. So this means nothing to us. And if you had a modicum of insight, you'll know that many HKers refuse to travel/work in China now, as a form of protest due to the aftermath of the 2019 HK protests.
