Armed groups went on a village-burning spree along the India-Myanmar border in Manipurโs Kamjong district on Wednesday (July 1, 2026), signalling the return of conflict between the Kuki and Naga communities after a pause.

Burning villages will never bring peace.
Reports from #Phaimol call for an immediate, transparent investigation and firm action against those responsible if the allegations are substantiated. Protect civilians. Restore trust.

Noney, July 1, 2026: Leikot, a Kuki-Zo village in Manipur's Noney district, was allegedly attacked and set on fire in the early hours of Wednesday, July 1. Local sources have accused cadres of NSCN-IM of carrying out the attack.
According to local residents and village sources, armed men believed to be affiliated with NSCN-IM entered the village at around 4:00 a.m., triggering an exchange of fire with Kuki-Zo Village Volunteers that reportedly lasted for nearly two hours.
Village sources stated that the volunteers retaliated using licensed firearms and cartridges. They further alleged that the volunteers were outmatched by attackers armed with foreign-made firearms and explosives, forcing them to withdraw from their defensive positions.
The same sources alleged that the attackers subsequently set fire to Leikot village at around 6:00 a.m. The extent of the destruction, including the number of houses damaged or destroyed, could not be independently verified at the time of publication.
There were no immediately confirmed reports of fatalities or injuries. Residents reportedly fled the village as the attack unfolded, raising concerns over the safety of civilians and the security situation in the area.

Another kuki village in Kamjong dist. was burnt down today by Manipur Nagas'.
Why Central & State security forces are no where to be seen whenever #Nagas' block NH / burnt villages, is this a power play of a Naga Dy. CM #Dikho or BJP's partner NPF.
Despite the persistent and uninformed narrative pushed by certain vested interests individuals and organisations who brand the Kuki-Zo people as "refugees" or "outsiders" history tells a very different story.
The attached archival document, dated 17 September 1947, is the distribution list of the first Manipur Constitution Making Committee. Of its members, six were Kuki-Zo, forming a significant bloc among those who helped lay the constitutional foundation of Manipur itself:
1. Pu Tiankham Paite โ B.A., C.O., Member
2. Pu K. Teba Kilong โ Member
3. Pu Thangkhopao Kipgen โ B.A., C.O., Member
4. Pu Dr. Kampu Gangte โ Advisor
5. Pu Thangkhaiโ Advisor
6. Pu S.L. Lunneh โ President, Kuki National Assembly (K.N.A.) Advisor
These were not refugees. These were sons of the soil educated leaders who sat at the very table where Manipur's constitutional future was written decades before today's manufactured controversies.
The Kuki community strongly condemns the actions of COBRA and other security forces against peaceful Kuki civilian protestors in the Leilon Vaiphei area. It is unacceptable that civilians raising concerns over security operations were met with force while exercising their democratic and constitutional right to protest.
The people of Kuki ancestral villages have repeatedly raised concerns regarding security operations focused on Kuki areas while serious allegations involving NSCN-IM, NSCN (Eastern Flank), ZUF-Kamson, Shan National Army elements, and Myanmar junta-linked armed groups operating along the IndiaโMyanmar border remain unaddressed. These allegations, including reports of attacks on villages, killings of innocent civilians, the deaths of three Kuki pastors, arson, and displacement, must be investigated thoroughly and impartially by the Government of India and concerned security agencies.
We demand justice for the three Kuki pastors and all innocent civilians who lost their lives. Those responsible for killings, attacks on villages, destruction of homes, and violence against civilians must be identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
We further demand the immediate opening and protection of the National Highway connecting Senapati District and Kangpokpi District. The free movement of food, medicine, essential commodities, students, patients, and civilians must be guaranteed without obstruction.
The Kuki community seeks justice, security, equal protection, and impartial enforcement of the law. Security forces must act fairly and address every threat to civilian lives without discrimination.
Justice for the victims. Security for all. Equal protection under the Constitution.

Henglep Erupts After Alleged Fake Encounter: COBRA CRPF Accused of Killing Farmer, Planting Militant Uniform
Villagers in Henglep allege COBRA CRPF personnel killed unarmed farmer Lenminsang Haokip, 38, at home on 16 June and staged a fake encounter. Locals say forces stripped his civilian clothes, dressed his body in militant fatigues, and hid his bloodstained shirt near Songkong. Civil bodies demand an independent judicial probe, forensic tests of recovered clothing, and return of the body for last rites. COBRA CRPF and state authorities have issued no response to the evidence-tampering claims.

Lamka l 17 June 2026 l
This morning, while the world was focused on the World Cup, we received the tragic news that Mr. Lenminsang, a Village Volunteer from Kolchung Village who was present at Songkong Village, Henglep Subdivision, Manipur, was reportedly killed by Security Forces while he was carrying out his regular duty.
A Village Volunteerโs responsibility is to protect and serve the community, especially in situations where people feel unsafe and vulnerable. It is deeply concerning that a person who was standing in the line of duty to safeguard civilians has reportedly lost his life.
We strongly condemn the reported killing of an innocent volunteer. The lives of civilians and community defenders must be protected, not treated as threats. Those responsible Security Forces must be held accountable through a fair and impartial investigation.
Why are the very forces responsible for protecting civilians failing to protect them and instead becoming a source of fear? The people deserve justice, security, and equal protection without bias.
Our deepest condolences go to the family and loved ones of Mr. Lenminsang. May his sacrifice never be forgotten.

Reports of an early morning attack at LeilonVaiphei village on 15 June have left several injured. Local sources have alleged the involvement of insurgent groups, including #NSCN-IM ZUF-K though no official confirmation has been issued.
Prayers for the injured &peace in #Manipur.
At least two members of the Kuki community have been killed in a fresh attack in Indiaโs Manipur state, where ethnic violence, kidnappings and retaliatory clashes continue to fuel instability and displacement.
Here is a video clip supposedly of the reinforcement team of. so-called Naga Village Guards that attack kuki villages in Lasan this morning.
The @HMOIndia & #Manipur CM @YKhemchandSingh must ensure that the village guards - guard their village & not become village attackers.
