A doctor from Myanmar. My country is under military coup and we all become activists for democracy. People are dying everyday in Myanmar because of junta.
7 OCT: NLD Vice-Chairman Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, an elected lawmaker in 2020, died due to lack of adequate medical care in #prison.
The CRPH strongly condemn military junta's ill-treatment and other #HumanRightsViolations against elected MPs and people.

Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, a prominent member of the National League for Democracy (NLD) and a former Chief Minister of Mandalay region, has sadly passed away early this morning. The passing of Dr. Zaw Myint Maung is particularly disheartening as he was among the NLD's high-ranking members who were detained by the junta regime following the military coup on February 1, 2021.
Dr. Zaw Myint Maung was sentenced to jail for 29 years under the infamous Penal Code 505 by the junta regime.
As he was not allowed to have a medical treatment early while he was in detention centre, Dr. Zaw Myint Maung's health deteriorated rapidly. Due to suffering blood cancer, he was said to have received medical treatment at a hospital under certain condition. However, his condition deteriorated further, and he was pronounced deceased at the hospital ICU at around 3:00 am today.
Dr. Zaw Myint Maung's death is a stark reminder of the ongoing struggles faced by Myanmar's pro-democracy movement and the severity of the junta's crackdown on dissent. His death serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those fighting for democracy and freedom in Myanmar.
The NLD, as a leading opposition party in Myanmar, has been vocal against the military rule and has called for the release of all political prisoners. Dr. Zaw Myint Maung's passing is not only a loss for his family and loved ones, but for the entire pro-democracy movement in the country.
Already, Shwe Phee Myay report junta-aligned PNA/PNO have slaughtered upwards of 120 youth who refused to fight for them (reportedly taken from a so-called "drug treatment center" operated by PNO to further recruit for militias).

#Myanmar citizens defy #military warnings as they fearlessly carry umbrellas bearing number 8 in Burmese to remember #8888Uprising 35 years ago as nationwide protests in 1988 ended the dictatorship then. Similar movement last year led to several arrests. #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar
