Improving crypto UX with onchain password reset

We just crossed 5K onchain recoveries for Farcaster.

One thing that I learned at Coinbase was that mainstream users forget passwords.

But we want Farcaster to be self-custodial. So we've implemented two layers to help users keep their account:

1. When you sign up, we generate a new mnemonic in the background and attach it to a Passkey that stays on the user's device and encrypted in their iCloud.

No need to write down the seed phrase (which over the last 3 years we've learned that most people won't do).

2. But even if you lose access to the Passkey, the Farcaster protocol allows for a second address to be able to transfer the Farcaster account to a new address.

This is set by default to Warpcast for users that sign up with Warpcast, but more sophisticated users have the option to change it to an address they control.

You can think of it as an onchain password reset that is user-controlled.

@OlimpioCrypto What do you do if a company.. ahem a tradfi one…uses SMS as the only form of 2FA? Or better yet, some seem to offer security keys but hey if you don’t have it with you time, don’t worry you can choose to use SMS instead
