Preparations are currently underway as the Ministry of Transport and other relevant authorities put the final arrangements in place to launch the country's first dedicated freight train service.

The initiative is expected to facilitate the transportation of goods and raw materials while easing the burden on the nation's road network.

The flooding we are witnessing today is not something new. It is not a problem that started yesterday or even four years ago. It has existed for well over a decade. The challenges we face today have been with us for a very long time, yet there has been little to no improvement.

The issue of poor sanitation is just as serious as the problem of galamsey. This is what happens when problems are not addressed in their early stages. At this point, tackling the issue will be extremely difficult and will require a tough, uncompromising approach.

A large-scale environmental cleanup will be necessary. Buildings may have to be demolished, and families may be displaced if we are to find a permanent solution. Temporary settlements may also need to be provided for affected residents while the necessary work is carried out.

Our leaders know the solution. They know what needs to be done, but the fear has always been, "If we do it, people will complain, and we will lose votes." That mindset has been a major obstacle for many years.

Had we paid the price and taken the necessary actions years ago, we would not have reached this point today.
