Just want to add: the people whose books I’m encountering online are either from friends or an algorithm built by my own interests/tastes. Usually the books I haven’t read are ones I haven’t made time for yet but want to, and the “everything” of course was hyperbole.

whenever someone posts their bookshelf or book pile, I go through each book because the rule is… I have to had read at least one thing in the picture. And if I haven’t read anything, then this person whose books I’m inspecting has “won” and that’s why I need to read everything

@norabird It’s just a little curiosity and the desire to be a well-rounded reader. I mean I have standards as to what/who I read that has already been primed by own taste, and at worst it’s placing some pressure on myself to read more, but I think… that’s also just fine
