A new @WHO report reveals that noncommunicable #NCDs diseases like cancer, heart disease, and diabetes, along with their risk factors, disproportionately impact the poorest and most disadvantaged populations within countries.
This first comprehensive global assessment highlights that people with lower education and income often face higher risks from #tobacco, alcohol, and #airpollution, and frequently receive worse care, such as lower cancer screening rates and less access to hypertension treatment in rural areas.
To close these unjust gaps, countries must prioritize equity-oriented policies, strengthen primary #health systems, and invest in collecting better disaggregated data to ensure that life-saving interventions actually reach the populations most in need.

Circulating vitamin D metabolites are distinctly associated with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality: a prospective study
✅️ Higher 25(OH)D3 levels were associated w/lower risks of all-cause & CVD mortality, whereas 25(OH)D2 showed no significant associations w/mortality.
Highlights:
▶️ Serum 25(OH)D₃ was associated with lower risk of all-cause & CVD mortality.
▶️ A nonlinear association was observed between 3‑epi-25(OH)D3 & mortality.
▶️ Serum 25(OH)D₂ was not significantly associated w/mortality.
▶️ Alkaline phosphatase & albumin may mediate 25(OH)D₃-mortality associations.

Germany 🇩🇪 is raising taxes on cigarettes, sugary drinks and #alcohol in a push expected to generate billions of euros for state coffers while promoting public health.
Lawmakers approved a sharp rise in #tobacco taxes on Thursday, expected to raise more than €12 billion in 2027–2030 and push the average pack above €11 by the end of the decade.
A day earlier, the cabinet approved a #sugar levy on soft drinks 🥤 from July 2027: €0.26 per litre for drinks with at least 5 g of sugar per 100 ml, rising to €0.32 for higher-sugar products.
The finance ministry expects €690 million in 2027 and €925 million in 2028, against about €2.1 billion a year in healthcare costs linked to sugary drinks. Duties on spirits, sparkling wine and alcopops are set to rise by 20% from 2027, though beer and still wine are left untouched.
A strong step in the spirit of @WHO “3 by 35” initiative. Better #health and sustainable revenue for health systems can go hand in hand.

In 2025, scientists delivered the first personalized CRISPR treatment to an infant with a rare genetic disorder just 6 months after diagnosis [1].
Meanwhile, NIH research identified 275 million previously unreported genetic variants, opening new paths to precision medicine [2].
💊 The opportunity is enormous: fewer ineffective treatments, better drug selection, and earlier disease detection.
But access remains unequal. Over 90% of participants in major genomics studies have European ancestry [3].
Healthcare leaders must invest in diverse datasets, affordable testing, and genetic counseling.
🤔 Should genetic testing become routine healthcare, or could it deepen existing inequalities?

Muscles do more than move your body. They help suppress tumors.
-
A new Nature Communications study exposed a striking muscle-to-tumor signaling pathway.
The biology:
1. Muscle sends messages: healthy muscle releases extracellular vesicles - tiny packages carrying molecular cargo.
2. One microRNA, miR-7a-5p, suppressed cancer-cell growth by targeting TEAD1, a protein involved in tumor proliferation.
3. Aged muscle produced fewer vesicles with less tumor-suppressing cargo.
4. Exercise restored the signal:
iin older mice, exercise activated the Notch → SDC2 pathway, increased vesicle production and slowed tumor growth.
5. Block the pathway: the exercise-associated tumor suppression disappeared.
This is not proof that exercise prevents cancer in humans.
The experiments were primarily in mice and cells.
But they reveal something important:
Muscle isn't just machinery.
It's an endocrine organ sending biological signals throughout the body.
Your move: Build muscle. Keep using it.
Give yourself another reason to resist age-related muscle loss.
