@EddieComeaux Its really sad how racism has been a reality for so many people. People are so quick to judge&discriminate based on the color of your skin, and while we would expect cops to protect us there are enormous amounts of cases where they have failed the black community. #racialjustice
@Andcam01 @rabea_qamar I completely agree! In so many circumstances students do not get the opportunity to push their education to their full potential because they are torn between studying and practicing. @MisssNallely @rabea_qamar #ucr150
African American athletes are taken for granted in many colleges! The whole goal of higher ed is to help them get ahead in life(career wise), instead of taking that education part for granted & being told to only focus on their sport not grades. @MisssNallely @rabea_qamar #ucr150
@JANELYmena@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar I agree! They forget the foundation that those athletics are built upon(higher education) and that being athletically gifted is more of a pathway way to college rather than the reason for it. #ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
I personally think the idea of a limited recruitment budget makes sense in order to bring better talent onto the team(in a limited way), but unfortunately it is not equally distributed or some athletes end up without money at the end of the day#Ucr150 @MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
@MariaSe87639541 @MisssNallely @rabea_qamar I most definitely agree with you! There is too much talent to be forced to sit out and not enough student athlete advocation by the schools or NCAA. #Ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
I never really thought about athletes playing for a fifth year, let alone transfering to another school for grad school and continuting their sport but I found it very interesting and good to know to inform my sister who plays college soccer. #ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
It's critical that schools are accountable when it comes to concussions because some can cause serious injury to the brain if the force is extreme, so regular testing is a good start in addition to regulation of physical blows in the sport! #Ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
I'm curious as to why so many so are non-compliant with title IX....is it because students are afraid to speak up and lose their spot on a team or is it that student athletes don't really know about it?? #Ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
@jvela030@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar I completely agree with you! Some students get so excited they get to play the sport they love and get their school payed for, but don't know what could potentially affect their future. @MisssNallely @rabea_qamar #Ucr150
In the readings I think that a better suggestion for PI's would be to offer them more academic resources and tutors, or a forced study hall with student/TA assistance so that they know their education/degree is crucial and not just football. @MisssNallely @rabea_qamar #ucr150
@sheilaluna___@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar I am also curious about this! What is based on and could it be affected by favoristim? Also, what happens to that scholarship if you get hurt during the season or off season? #ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
There's a lot of controversy in the scholarships/funding for college athletes, but those who are scholarship based and have financial hardships should at least receive a live-able stipend after contributing to so much $ made for their school. @MisssNallely @rabea_qamar #Ucr150
@mariamedinat@helloJuJudy I think this picture is a pretty accurate of how student athletes must feel at times ! In one of the readings they talked about their sport taking about 40 hrs/week on top of school/studying and sometimes work which seems like a lot! #Ucr150@MisssNallely
I think it really sucks how much money these players generate for the school and are extremely under compensated! Some of the players are still struggling with a scholarship while the schools are thriving :( #ucr150@MisssNallely
