Research assistant @ipeaonline. Master's student in transportation engineering (UFC) . very interested in Public Transport, Accessibility, Mobility and Equity
I'm very proud and happy that this work was the result of my master's degree.
I strongly believe that it is possible to implement new ways of evaluating changes in the transport network and redesigning/optimizing networks based on this new indicator.
:)
Super glad to share we have a new paper out! I'm particularly excited & proud of this one for a few reasons: 🧵👇

Moraes e Rafael Pereira.
Chuffed to see our paper online. Here we intoduce the new time interval cumulative accessibility measure, which mitigates the impact of arbitrary choices of trip duration on cmltv accessibility analyses

Short 🧵:
@humantransit@UrbanDemog That would be great! We are thinking a lot about applications of this indicator for network design. I particularly believe that this indicator can support network intervention decisions.
Excited to share the pre-print of the paper I wrote for my master's dissertation:
“A novel route-based accessibility measure and its association with transit ridership”, co-authored with Francisco Moraes and @UrbanDemog

Thread (1/n):
A robust route-based access metric could help practitioners incorporate accessibility analysis into transit system redesign projects & help them anticipate what accessibility impacts & subsequent changes in transit ridership could be expected from route-level service changes 13/n
The proposed route-based accessibility measure contributes to a growing body of literature that tries to understand the influence of accessibility on transit ridership. Moreover, it could help transport planners incorporate accessibility analysis into day-do-day practice 12/n
Our proposed indicator outperforms the others because it is the only one capable of capturing how the access conferred by a route results from its operational and connectivity characteristics, as well as the land use and population patterns along its path 11/n
In all tests, we find that the proposed indicator captures much stronger association btwn transit ridership & accessibility. This is regardless of using cumulative or gravity decay functions, or if we look separately for different types of transit routes (feeder, trunk) 10/n
Drawing on data from Fortaleza, we compare the proposed metric Vs two other route-based accessibility metrics from the literature. We examine how strong is the association btwn route-level ridership & these accessibility measures using correlation & multvar regression models 9/n
We then propose a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) mapping the causal paths of key variables that influence ridership at the route level, including accessibility & its components (land use, transportation, people). This informs how we model the association btwn access & ridership 8/n
If accessibility is one of the main benefits of transit systems, and if transit ridership reflects the direct utility people derive from transit services, we should expect that the accessibility provided by a transit route should be a good predictor of its passenger demand 7/n
