My debut Substack: liberalism was once confident in its doctrine, but its modern adherents have undergone an equivalent intellectual decay to Brezhnev-era communists
Nietzsche and Wittgenstein drew on him. Einstein kept his portrait on the wall. Proust, Wagner, and Mahler fell under his spell. Yet in his lifetime Schopenhauer was almost entirely unread.

It’s wild to me that prison abolitionists don’t seem to anticipate that lynch mobs applying summary justice and hanging criminals from lamp-posts would be the immediate, day-1, consequence of their policy
Watch as Darializa Avila Chevalier, prison abolitionist, is asked *four times* how she would handle a murderer, and each time refuses to answer. https://t.co/NFXYotaFx0
@EdwardEGibbon@si_rubinstein@jacques_davey I also think the prose-problem is slightly compounded by the fact that he doesn’t have much new to say. Shooting Niagara is fine, but he’s said it all before (and better).

Shaw turned down an invitation from Jennie Jerome (Lady Randolph Churchill) by saying that joining her for lunch would be contrary to his habits.
Jennie responded: “Know nothing of your habits. Hope they are better than your manners”
