Player development in youth baseball is inherently revolutionary, because it changes a child's ideas of what they're capable of.
That is a skill that scales.

A simple way to learn a cutter (for pronators):
Pronators may need to:
✅Offset their grip
✅Leverage their middle finger on a seam
✅Reduce pressure/baby spike index finger
How much shape you go for will depend on the goal (whiffs - more depth vs weak contact - more velo).
Best ⚾ Pitcher Mobility Drill
A common problem for baseball pitchers is the gradual tightness and loss of ROM in the shoulder over the course of the game and season.
The goal is to restore mobility BEFORE your athlete picks up a ball and then maintain it.
Try the “2-Out Drill” to warm up your athlete before pitching and to maintain mobility between innings throughout a game.
👇 Here it is:
1️⃣ Static Stretches - you want to start with these and hold each pose for only about 3 seconds. Exercises like the cross-body stretch and wrist flexion.
2️⃣ Rotator Cuff Activation Drills - these will really fire up the rotator cuff and warm it up. Perform 5 circles forward and 5 circles back in both large circles and small circles.
3️⃣ Movement Prep - here you really want to get dynamic, with cross-body hugs, swims, and field goals, about 5 each.
4️⃣ Trunk Rotation - Lastly, we’re going to work on trunk rotation drills
This entire drill might take 1-2 minutes but has been shown scientifically to improve ROM and performance over the course of a game. It’s designed to be quick enough to do for pitchers in the dugout when there are two outs and they are getting ready to head back out.

Should every pitcher just grip a 2-seam changeup? 🧐
Performance Specialist Tyler Zombro makes his case for why every pitcher should at least try to throw a changeup with a 2-seam orientation.
"Where would you start in teaching a pitcher a changeup?" 🤔
Performance Coach Ryan Flippo discusses what his first step would be with a pitcher trying to learn a changeup.👌
A little twist for your anti steal defense. Phase 2 pick @ 1B after the runner is safe on your primary pick. For that runner who:
1) Gets up & off aggressively to show you who’s boss.
2) Starts looking for signals as he is establishing his primary lead & takes his eyes off the P.
There are 2 primary grips for cutters and low efficiency sliders.
Both are similar but on different parts of the ball. They are essentially off-centered fastball grips.
There should be very little wrist manipulation with this pitch. The goal is for velo to be within 7-8 mph of your fastball.
The more true cutter it is, the faster it should be.
If you’re struggling to kill the efficiency enough and get the depth you want, try raising your thumb slightly or making the grip stronger (more off-set).

My 2 favorite changeup grips right now:
Grip #1: Kick Change
Made famous by @LA_Strom and @TreadHQ
This grip allows me to lower the spin direction out of the hand without losing the seam effects I already create. Making it a consistent negative IVB pitch!
For me, I use a 2 seam grip but slide a little further back on the seams. I spike the middle finger enough so it is about the same length as my ring finger.
I found that when I spike it more, I tend to cut the ball too much.
Grip #2: 3-Fingered Split
This one is fun to throw because it doesn’t require much thinking. Good option for higher slot guys.
The key is keeping 3 fingers as close together as possible on the inside of the seam. Curl the index over the other seam. Typically just trying to throw it like a fastball works well.
For both of these and most changeup grips, I have found curling the index finger towards you as opposed to more straight, allows the ball to slip to the other fingers easier, which typically gets the ball to kick more sideways.
Give these a shot and let me know which one works for you!
