ejaculation depletes glutathione. glutathione is the single most important antioxidant your body produces. it is called the "master antioxidant" because every other antioxidant (vitamin C, vitamin E, alpha lipoic acid) depends on glutathione to recycle them back into their active form. when glutathione is depleted, the entire antioxidant defense system degrades. you're not just losing one antioxidant when you ejaculate. you're losing the one that all the others depend on.

the mechanism: seminal fluid contains significant concentrations of glutathione because sperm cells require antioxidant protection to survive the oxidative environment of the female reproductive tract. the body loads glutathione into seminal fluid the same way it loads zinc: at concentrations that prioritize reproductive success over systemic defense. ejaculation removes that glutathione from the body. the replenishment requires the amino acids cysteine, glycine, and glutamate plus ATP energy. chronic ejaculation creates a chronic glutathione deficit.

this is why men on nofap report improved skin, reduced inflammation, faster recovery from exercise, and "feeling healthier" at a level they struggle to articulate. the improvement is systemic because glutathione is systemic. every cell in the body uses glutathione. when the chronic drain stops, the master antioxidant normalizes. every downstream antioxidant function improves because the molecule that recycles them all is no longer being depleted faster than it's produced.

the immune system depends on glutathione for T cell activation and function. the liver depends on glutathione for phase 2 detoxification. the mitochondria depend on glutathione for protection against the reactive oxygen species they produce during energy production. the brain depends on glutathione for protection against neuroinflammation. every system. one antioxidant.

the supplement industry sells glutathione supplements for $30 to $60 per month (liposomal form for absorption). the supplements are attempting to refill a tank that chronic ejaculation is actively draining. the math doesn't work. you cannot out supplement a behavior that depletes faster than the supplement refills. the cheapest and most effective glutathione optimization strategy is free: stop draining the tank.

the man on day 30 of nofap has glutathione levels that the man supplementing glutathione while ejaculating daily cannot achieve. the retained man's body kept what it produced. the depleted man's body is producing and losing simultaneously. one is filling a bucket. the other is filling a bucket with a hole in it. the $40 per month glutathione supplement is water through the hole. retention is the plug.

Should a USB-C connector's shell go straight to ground, or through an RC (1 MΩ ‖ 4.7 nF)? Open boards are split.

I hit both with a simulated 8 kV zap. Either way, 30 A lands in your ground. The cap is just left holding 249 V.

Answer: straight, unless the box is earthed. 🧵

Pain is information

As a child, you touched something hot, and it burned you. That pain gave you a piece of information: be careful touching hot things.

When you sign up to run a marathon, you are signing up for pain. But whether or not you keep running is up to you. In Haruki Murakami’s words “pain is inevitable but suffering is optional”. You can choose pain without choosing suffering.

Pain is information, and information is painful. Rewiring your brain is not a frictionless process. Some knowledge can only be discovered the hard way.

The sooner you can convert pain into knowledge, the sooner you can experience the next useful pain. Don’t put yourself through the same pain too many times. To access new information you must experience new pains.

They say “knowledge is power”. If pain is information, then pain can be converted to power. To do so, you must learn to control your suffering, accept that scars are beautiful.

If you felt pain, ask what information it gave you. If that information was useful, seek the next pain. You are learning.

Pi Pocket 0.14 is out!

This one's a big one. The goal was to make Pocket a clean base anyone can build on, so most new stuff can just be extensions and themes now instead of changes to Pocket itself. Fork maintainers rejoice, the extension API is stable from here on, so most of what you forked for can just be an extension now.

Extensions can add pages, buttons, routes and slash commands right into the app, and Pi can build them for you. In the video I had it build itself a live team board, straight from the docs.

Also new: Agent Teams, an extension gallery (pinned, hashed, and off until you turn it on), themes that can change the whole layout, and a refreshed look.

Pocket is built on Pi Durable, so a huge thanks to @badlogicgames and @pidotdev for Pi, Pi Durable, and the foundation that let us build a cool thing.

And this release wouldn't be what it is without the community. 13 people, 12 PRs and 15 issues went into 0.14. Thank you all!

I hated the way pre-calculus courses taught the epsilon-delta definition of a limit.

So, I went to the library looking for something better and I came across Selected Papers on Calculus by Tom Apostol. Not only did I find a simple alternative, I also got a chance to impress my lecturer and peers with something they never saw before. It's one of those feelings that motivates love and pursuit of mathematical knowledge among young freshmen.

@nntaleb might call these mathematical acrobatics, but one of the things this AI era will do is deny upcoming mathematicians the thrill of discovery.

A single number is already a tensor.

Add one index and it becomes a vector. Add a second and you have a matrix. Add a third and the array becomes a cube of numbers. Each step simply increases the number of indices needed to pick out one entry.

Rank is that count: 0 for a scalar, 1 for a vector, 2 for a matrix, 3 or more for a full tensor. The same rules of addition and multiplication apply at every level.

Tensors are not a new kind of object. They are the general case that includes everything else.
