Another 2Ks tonight for McFarlane and his 11th save of the year. Desperately want to see him in Lehigh to see if he can perform there as well. Bullpen is too shaky to be using him as trade bait right now
Understand the opt-out clause, but if the next move is to send Rincones back down right as he’s getting his swing and showing the plate vision expected. You can see true development and growth starting to happen would be such a confidence killer
Tonight Rincones looks like he’s starting to find his swing and settling in. This is why you allow players to adjust and don’t give up too fast on them.
@Pinstripe_hype I’ve liked a lot of Mattingly’s decisions since taking over but there have been some really questionable and head scratching bullpen decisions so far, tonight included
The past week I’ve really had some questions on the handling of the bullpen. Know you expected a little more length from Wheels but didn’t like Johnson coming back in there.
Not sure if it’s how bad the bullpen is right now or just trying to save arms, but haven’t liked it
@Mitch_Rupert His defense was always MLB caliber and just waiting for his bat to come and it’s really nice to see him hit this year. Been really fun to watch him develop this season
@Pinstripe_hype I know they did try, but didnt make sense to tell him you don’t have a chance to have a secured starter spot knowing there was so many things that could go wrong.
Hindsight 20/20 and couldn’t let Nola go to Atl, but the deal they gave him is just aging so poorly
I’m just not even sure what they can realistically do at the deadline.
They need a bat. They need bullpen help. They need a back-end starter. They need another bench piece. But have very little chips to trade with
As nice as another bat would be, think the trade deadline focus has to be a back end rotation starter and at least 1 bullpen arm. They need to call McFarlane up too
@Pinstripe_hype Literally went from that was a fast jump on Ashcraft and looking like a win to an absolute unraveling of basic fundamentals and wondering how did that just happen
@Mitch_Rupert That’s my thoughts too. With consistent ABs he’s been able to put up really good numbers. I’d like them to give Rincones a little more time to put it together, but know they have had short leashes with the OF and think there will be some change
McFarlane is gonna be a really good reliever in the MLB, but unfortunately think it’s gonna be outside of the Phillies. Truly think they’re keeping him in Reading to keep his trade value as high as possible and will probably be used in a package for a RH rental
