Good news travels fast today!!! Our first two state qualifiers today! Kayla McCabe finishes 3rd and Leah McCabe finishes 5th in HJ to advance to next week in Columbus! Congrats to both girls and Coach McCabe!
The best thing that can happen to a performer is you perform well when feeling like shit.
An athlete who runs a PR after feeling like trash. Or a parent who does their best writing with two kids under two.
It frees you up from the idea that you need to feel great to perform.
It’s meet day! District semis today with some field, 4x800 and 3200 mixed in!
For some, one last opportunity to give their all and others a chance to move on to regionals next week!
Underrated life advice: Make yourself easy to root for. Be kind. Be reliable. Celebrate other people’s wins. Work hard without complaining. Carry good energy into rooms. You'll be shocked by how many doors open for you by making life better for others.
It's been quite a start to the year for LHP Joseph Dzierwa, Orioles' highest-drafted pitcher of Mike Elias era (2025 second round).
The 22-year-old was the star of Spring Breakout (8 K's in 3 scoreless innings).
Then, Dzierwa had a 2.21 ERA in 8 starts for High-A Frederick.
What characteristics do the best performers have?
A few common traits I've noticed:
1. Don't get tired of the boring stuff
2. Masters of compartmentalization
3. Can flip the switch
4. Know how to lose well
5. Cultivate perspective
6. Delayed gratification
7. Drive from within
Curt Cignetti shares a universal truth about habits and consequences.
"In life - you got freedom of choice, but not freedom of consequence."
"First you form your habits, then your habits form you."
Every choice and action you take compounds. The small decisions you make daily - preparation, work ethic, and how you respond - those become your habits.
And over time, those habits become your identity.
You're free to choose. But the consequences of those choices aren't optional.
Your habits are shaping who you become.

Posting workouts without posting paces and your interval between repeats is meaningless and teaches your followers nothing.
Example 12 x 400 @ marathon pace with 30 seconds recovery is a strength workout.
12 x 400 at mile pace with 2 minutes recovery is a speed workout.
Most folks underestimate how aerobic most exercise is.
Someone running a quick 800m, an even that lasts less than 2-minutes is 55-65% or so aerobic.
An 800 is FAST...yet mostly aerobic.
Remember that whenever people talk about speed, endurance, HIIT, etc.
Love this topic... I refer to it as "the narrowing" of our lives. It's slow... it's insidious... and it's very real.
We rationalize and normalize far too many changes and blame them solely on aging. Yes... aging brings changes-- but it's the lack of doing these movements over decades that's responsible for the majority of the losses.
5⃣ no-hit frames from Joseph Dzierwa at High-A!
The @Orioles' 2025 second-rounder lowers his ERA to 1.97 and average-against to .138 for the @FrederickKeys.
Holy Toledo.
Vincent Mauri is 25 years old. Ran in college at Arizona St & Notre Dame.
Best finish of 68th at NCAA XC. 13:34 5,000m pb. Never even raced a 10,000m while in college.
Now he's a 2:05 guy. In TOLEDO?
Was Sabastian Sawe’s world record not even the craziest marathon performance of the day?? 🤯
Vincent Mauri ran his first marathon the Glass City Marathon in Toledo, OH, this morning… and won in 2:05:54, becoming only the fourth American ever to break 2:06.
The 25-year-old @NDXCTF and @SunDevilTFXC alum won by 15 MINUTES running solo on a USATF-certified course. Mauri finished his collegiate career in 2025 with PBs of 3:59.05 (mile), 7:50.33 (3000m), and 13:34.03 (5000m).
@OriolesHangout Thanks for the insight! Admittedly, I'm a new fan of the O's and their farm system this year. I had just found your account after some searching. Having fun as a new follower!
