Sorry for dumping cold water on those people praising a couple of the Dubai royals going to meet Smit Machchar.
Flydubai is run by the Dubai Aviation Corporation which is owned by the Dubai government.
They hired a guy who was radicalised and had been fired from his last job with Oman Air precisely for that reason.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Dubai. I’ve been there twice in the mid-1990s long before it became anything like it is today. And fell in love with the place. It was even then more liberal than the other emirates.
But this has nothing to do with the place. It has got to do with someone in the food chain who screwed up, big time. Didn’t anyone in flydubai do a background check? The airline has a lot of explaining to do on whether the hiring was an oversight or plain and simple incompetence.
