Might be good for graduates home and abroad to actually quote this tweet so people who are in school, and genuinely need direction, would have stories to refer to. Some very “interesting” people like this guy always choose to see the bad stories, live in their self imposed delusion that academic excellence provides no excellent career path, and are incredibly—albeit doltishly—vocal about the self imposed, delusional bad stories.

Double first class graduate here. I do not think I could have had a better life otherwise. I got my first job in a big Nigerian law firm without an interview. I got a distinction in my first masters. I got admitted to Stanford, NYU, Oxford and Cambridge, based on, among others, my academic excellence. I got my current job in one of the biggest law firms in the world based on, among others, my academic excellence.

I have spoken to many people, opened many doors, and benefited from many opportunities simply because of my academic profile. I have gotten audiences with Governors and other top public officials, CEOs of Fortune 1000 companies, and other distinguished personalities that I would otherwise not have access to, because of my academic profile.

Of course academics is not the way for everyone, but it is ALWAYS a way, and it’s quite interesting that at this age and stage, people still say it does not matter.

People who succeeded through academics never say you cannot succeed without a degree. However, why do people who succeeded without a degree, or with horrible grades, always discredit the value of high grades? You can succeed with or without high grades, but you’re more likely to access opportunities beyond your dreams with high grades.

This is not intended to spark a wasteful debate with academic agnostics, but to motivate people who still have the chance at academics. This might be your only chance.
