In 1986, the American Medical Association published an article titled "The Physical Death of Jesus Christ". It details the entire process of Jesus' trial to His death on the cross.

In Luke 22, before Jesus is arrested, it is written that He was in great distress & sweating blood. Although rare, it is recognized as Hematidrosis, a condition caused by high levels of stress.

At the time, the crucifixion was considered the worst death for the worst of criminals. But this is not all Jesus faced. He endured whipping so severe that it tore the flesh from His body. He was beaten so horribly that His face was torn & His beard ripped.

A crown of thorns, 2-3 inches long cut deeply into His scalp. The leather whip used to flog Him had tiny iron balls & sharp bones. The balls caused internal injuries while the sharp bones ripped open His flesh. His skeletal muscles, veins, & bowels are exposed, causing major blood loss. Most men do not survive this kind of torture. After Jesus was severely flogged, He was forced to carry His cross while people mocked & spat on Him.

Crucifixion was a process meant to instill excruciating pain, creating a slow & agonizing death. Nails as long as 8 inches were driven into Jesus' wrists & feet. The Roman soldiers knew the tendons in the wrists would tear & break, forcing Jesus to use His back muscles to support Himself to breathe. Imagine the struggle, the pain, the courage...Jesus endured this reality for 3 hours!

The Gospel of John writes that after Jesus' death, a Roman soldier pierced His side with a spear & blood & water came out. Scientists explain that from hypovolemic shock, the rapid heart rate causes fluid to gather in the sack around the lungs & heart. The accumulation of fluid in the membrane around the heart is called a Pericardial effusion & the lungs is called a pleural effusion.

To the world, Christianity is as foolish as it can get. They believe it's for the weak. But when you are confronted by the reality of the cross, it's clearly not a pretty sight. It is brutal & horrific.

This is the weight Jesus carried. The weight of the sins of the world, all so that we can live. God's wrath is fully satisfied in Jesus. This is what it took. Repent & believe! Jesus is “God among us” in the flesh. Jesus is our Savior. Jesus loves you so much that He went through this spiritual and physical punishment for your sins and mine.

Jesus is the LORD, Almighty God, Everlasting Father.

If you are a believer and you read this, unless you are careful, it can cause you to doubt the gift of the word of knowledge.

And this is how unbelief creeps in.

You might not realize it, but the next time you are in a meeting and someone ministers via the word of knowledge, you will suddenly realize that you are not really excited about the whole thing.

And you close off yourself from one of the avenues that God can use to minister to you.

This is why we are instructed to guard our hearts with all diligence.

We have precedence from scriptures that the word of knowledge exists.

We see Jesus operate in it, we see the Apostles walk in it, and we see the Apostle Paul teach it expressly. That should be enough for you to believe it.

Are there people that lie about it? Yes there are. A lot of people in fact.

But, that does not mean, that it is not a valid way through which the Holy Spirit reaches out to people.

I have had too many personal experiences with the word of knowledge, both as a recipient and as someone who has ministered under it.

And yes, I have gotten it wrong many times.

I have called people or conditions out via word of knowledge and no one came out.

I simply admitted that I might have gotten it wrong and moved on.

I have also called someone out via word of knowledge and no one answered. Only to find out later that the said person was supposed to be at the meeting, but was unable to come.

In conclusion, dear believer. Guard your heart diligently, for out of it flows the issues of life.

If you do not consistently and consciously drown out takes like this that “sound smart” but are ultimately direct contradictions to the written word, you will end up losing regard for many things.

And that’s exactly what the enemy wants.

A believer that no longer “believes”.

P.S Note that my post is directly addressed to bible believing Christians.

But falling short in spiritual habits is not strange to God, that’s why His Word says that even if the righteous fall seven times, they will rise again. If you miss prayer or Bible study today, don’t believe the lie that you’re unworthy or unfit to be His child. absolutely not! Try again tomorrow. His arms are always open. Tell Him how you feel and ask the Holy Spirit for strength. Don’t let guilt grow into something that pushes you further away. Shake off guilt. His love hasn’t changed.

WHY HE DIED
