I think when people argue that prayer isn’t about outcomes at all, they’re not describing prayers anymore. They’re describing a coping mechanism, a kind of conceptual insulation layer to protect themselves from the catastrophic disappointment of unanswered prayers.

If you are around people who stigmatize your intelligence, whether subtly or overtly, you are around low quality people. Sure, they’ll come to respect you when you become successful, because regular people only see value through symbols. But you need better people around you.
It’s basic humanity. It’s not a celebration for perfection; it is a moment to reflect on parents as people who, like us other adults, play a role nothing fully prepares them for. Some do it better than others, but they all don’t need to be perfect to be collectively appreciated.
There are days when even ‘responsible’ parents hurt their children. Today is not the day to remember that. Today is the day to put aside their failings and remember them for the times, however few, that they have tried. It is the celebration of parenthood which in itself is noble.
So it’s not that people are triggered. It’s that the qualifications are unnecessary. It disqualifies those who are hoping to do better or be more responsible. It places a ceiling on the extent of grace we should give to others and unfairly assumes that irresponsible parents are irredeemable or that they cannot be loved.
For a people who talk about love every time, we don’t know how to love anything conceptually. If it is not right in our face, with cakes and lemon clovers, we forget how to be human.
