@HHS3239 Even if someone did, it's not our theology. You won't find it taught anywhere. I am sure individual Orthodox people, and even the odd priest might believe it but It's not in any of the writing on theological issues, it's not our view on salvation.
@HHS3239 They would be mistaken. You won't find any priest or bishop teaching this. PSA is a wholly Protestant conception, specifically from John Calvin.
@HHS3239 PSA as a concept is developed and articulated by John Calvin, modifying Anselm of Canterbury's eleventh-century satisfaction model. It conflicts with Orthodox Christology and Trinitarian theology. Is it heresy? It hasn't been condemned at a council as such, but it is error.
It
@YariLogos They begin and end in soteriology. The cross therefore is not just important but foundational. We are in a debt of sin. We can't pay. Jesus picks up the tab through crucifixion. Just remember to say thanks.
That's Christianity to them.
@TalesOfKalfinda@Aelthemplaer Jesus didn't convert to anything. None of the followers of Jesus did. Christianity is the religion of the Old Testament fulfilled. It is the culmination of all the promises. There are types and foreshadowing abound. Regardless, even today Jews ritually consume bread and wine.
It's not about Kirpans in a literal sense. It's symbolic of rules and privileges which are to the benefit of different cultures. If you asked anyone, they'd be in favour of abolishing all these carve outs. And that would only be the start.
This Kirpan angle is a red herring. The important factors are (1) the police’s attitude to racism accusations (2) the murderer cynically leveraging that and (3) the collusion of the family. All three of these are indicative of wider and more serious problems than Kirpans.
If anything makes Orthodox Christians "look terrible", it's the incessant counter-signalling *all* the social media camps do against each other. Ask yourself, for whose approval?
Jay Dyer makes us Orthodox Christians look terrible. I unironically believe he's a great debater but hes a bad representative of Orthodoxy online due to how uncharitable he is.
The trial verdict was reached and the sentencing was a few days ago. We also got the body cam footage released a day ago. This isn't hard to understand.
Henry Nowak died on the 3rd of December 2025? Why all of a sudden is this mainstream media news? I’ll say it again, something is well off with this whole story imo…
Anyone demanding remigration needs to actually consider the prior issue, which is the winning back of the justice system. Unless you have this aspect of institutional control, there is very little you can do long-term.
@ThyPaddyDaddy I think the fear or reluctance is based on 1. institutional inertia and 2. what happened in France with the ECOF. However the goal should always be to establish an autocephalous church in a jurisdiction.
@Physiologus11 Private mass is an enduring medieval liturgical abuse. Liturgy is inherently a public, corporate act of the entire Church. Without an assembly, celebrating in isolation converts a communal sacrament into an individual devotion and creates a linguistic fiction.
The Henry Nowak murder is a microcosm of British life. You are violently assaulted and dying. The perpetrator is treated as a victim by those who are charged with your protection. If there were any justice, the officers would be charged with gross negligence manslaughter as well.
@_CatholicWest Technically no one other than the priest may use the orans position ( hands outstretched) during Mass. It is stated clearly as much in the GIRM. Many lay Catholics don't know that. It's the fault of the priests for not correcting this behaviour.
@YariLogos Virtually everyone involved is a former protestant, even the priests who debase themselves engaging with these streams and Twitter spats. They all may have been received into the Church but the prot mindset runs very deep.
