Left-handed PGA Pro at UT Golf Club๐ค๐ผ I spend most of my time fixing right-handed golf swings. Sharing insights from the trenches of golf instruction.
It never ceases to amaze me the options that golfers have when trying to change the impact alignments.
Face open? Strengthen your grip. Take it back closed. Twist closed it in the downswing.
Pick one, or a little of all of them. Just make sure the face is more closed at impact.
Just had another student find me and book a lesson based on a recommendation by ChatGPT.
All golf instructors, or any business, should hand their website to their favorite ai model and ask it to optimize for SEO and AEO (answer engine optimization).

Tired of missing the ball to the right?
This high school golfer didn't know what controlled the ball's start direction.
We spent 4 minutes talking about the clubface (not positions) and his wrist angles changed on their own.
Concept > mechanics.

YouTube, instagram, and X get blamed for throwing too much info at golfers looking to improve.
The information isnt the problem as much as our avoidance of doing the actual work.
There is no friction when scrolling these apps. It's simple consumption.
But friction while practicing is where real improvement in our golf performance lives.
This golfer started the lesson with 5 thin wedge shots where the club didnt sniff the ground (left pic). After a conversation about where to hit the ground, and an intention to do just that we achieved the right pic.
No swing theory, no drills. Just an intention to hit the ground in front of the ball.
The first time I took the PAT I literally shot +27 over thru the first 27 holes. Then proceeded to shoot even on the final 9 lol.
Either golf is a mental, or Iโm mental ๐คช
Idk why, but golfers get egotistical about their driver loft the same way they do about what tee box they play.
They think higher loft is like moving up a tee. like no bro you launch your driver sub 10* with less spin than a Tim Wakefield knuckleball. Lose the ego and hit the 10.5*.
I've had more success giving golfers external cues (hit the ground infront of the ball, move strike higher on the face etc) vs giving them internal cues (shift pressure to lead foot, shallow hands in transition etc).
Internal focuses seem to completely distract the golfer from what actually matters to a good golf shot. External focuses give them a goal that has a direct impact on... impact lol.
In college i wished someone woulda open sourced some kinda golf tech. Not to use teaching, just to learn and play with. Too much $$

I built a free swing vid app like V1 if anyones interested. Hopefully the younger me out there will get some use out of it.
@drakesmith__ I get beginner college kids reaching out atleast once a week looking to take lessons. Usually itโs an internship or a boss for a new job who told them theyโre gonna have to play and rep the company in front of clients. Itโs a life skill!!
