There’s a reason they won’t push this as Grand Coalition, because they know very well this is the kind of coalition that has the potential to serve Kenyans, not their interests.

A Maraga, Omtatah and Sifuna led government has the potential to right so many wrongs in this country. That is exactly why the conversation will quickly shift to who can bring votes, who has numbers and who is “electable”, not because they care about Kenya but because they need politicians they can control and who will protect the very system that has looted this country for decades.

This idea that we need Person A, B or C because they will “bring votes” needs to end.
Go out there and campaign for the candidate you believe in, talk to your family, talk to your cousins, talk to your grandparents, form groups, have conversations, convince people… this is how democracies are won.

No one has a monopoly on votes in this country. As someone once said, THE VOTER IS THE KINGMAKER!!

Why are we waiting for the same political class that helped ruin this country to tell us which direction Kenya should take? Until we understand that the opposition is not a group of wealthy politicians fighting each other but you, the people, demanding better leadership, we will keep surrendering our power to those who have never had our interests at heart.

The perspective for conflict resolution in marriage

I am a student of history, because it is the only thing that sets the stage for today and tomorrow.

When incoming President Edwin Sifuna visited Trans Nzoia and Bungoma counties two weekends ago, I wonder if those in the long convoy noticed how much they trod on the path of beautiful history. It felt like an effortless invitation to walk with the spirits of not just Raila Odinga, but also those of the two most consequential Luhyas ever; Prophet Elijah Masinde Wanameme okhwa Mwasame and Pius Henry Masinde Muliro.

And there is a drop of both in the man now carrying their dreams, Sifuna.

Prophet Masinde was a radical whose methods of fighting colonial rule were so extreme that at independence, he would remain incarcerated, perhaps the only colonial-era detainee that the new independent government didn't bother to release. In fact, he spent nearly all of Kenyatta's rule in jail, getting released only when Moi came to power in 1978.

Prophet Masinde's crime was that he demanded real independence; political, economic and religious freedom, and an end to land injustices. In those very lonely days in jail in Lamu, the only friend and ally in high places, who shared his vision, was Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, who consistently demanded Masinde's release and the same freedoms that the Prophet asked for.

Meanwhile, Masinde Muliro became the early face of the Majimbo debate, one of the earliest fathers of devolution. A hugely principled, respected and forthright man, Muliro's controversial death at JKIA in 1991, just when he was set to be the compromise candidate as the FORD war raged between Jaramogi and Matiba, was acknowledged as having robbed the nation of one of its most impeccable leading political lights.

The two were peerless. Incidentally, both were born in Kimilili, Bungoma County, where the Sifuna convoy had a massive gathering during their tour. Interestingly, on the first day of the tour, the caravan held a rally in Sibanga, in Kitale, the burial place of Muliro. The two Masindes were born ahead of their time, and had long term visions that are only becoming clearer to the new generation.

Prophet Masinde was the author of the famous prophecy that political power would come to the House of Mulembe via the lake. The interpretation of this vision has been done over and over again at different electoral cycles. In 1992, the Ford Kenya marriage between the Luo and the Bukusu heavily rode on this prophecy, and it was seen as being on the way to fruition in 1994, when Wamalwa Kijana replaced Jaramogi as Ford Kenya leader after the old man rested. But Raila muddied the waters later.

The dream was again cited during the many instances when Raila tried to prop up Musalia Mudavadi for the presidency, despite the latter's infamous reluctance and failure to rise to the occasion. Some of us who remain faithful to history, when asked "what did Raila see in Sifuna to keep him as the longest lasting SG of his beloved party?", have always answered that Prophet Masinde's vision was at work, even though those alien to history dismiss us. In Trans Nzoia and Bungoma last week, we witnessed Raila, Prophet Masinde and Masinde Muliro, united at work.

The reason the lake was unable to pass power to the House of Mulembe all these years, was because the Luhya were unable to produce a person who would capture the imagination of the nation and leave the lake only needing to sign on the dotted line, like Prophet Masinde foresaw. Until now. With a credible candidate, embraced by the whole country and causing a national wave, the Mulembe Nation have now produced the ingredient that was missing in order for Prophet Masinde's cuisine to be cooked and served.

I am really excited that after Western, the Linda Mwananchi caravan will be in Homa Bay next. The prophecy is coming to the lake to be validated.
