@DerickWiebe Yup that how it's supposed to work. But not all C# null checks work for monobehaviours -- when they're serialised they're never truly null, and unity didn't overload all types of checks (null coalescing fi is unreliable). Seem to remember it failing in this context a few times.
...found another exploit that I don't feel like fixing -- if we keep the party leader out of enemy triggers, we can loot a room clean with another partymember : ) but since they can wander around on their own accord, we can't have them triggering enemy encounters by themselves!
@DerickWiebe Ah I have distinct memories of running into trouble without extra nullchecks in this context so I tend to add them out of habit when dealing with possibly serialised monobehaviour references. Not sure if these are such tho, but better safe than sorry : )
...plus all partymembers can now activate room-exit portals, so they're full-on player characters now. Just ones that tend to wander around if you don't give them something to do : )
