1 criticism of Stevens that seems unfair is that he is to blame for LeBron going to PHI & creating an Eastern Conf. superteam. 1st off if JB isn’t traded to PHI, James likely signs w/ CLE & they would have been an arguably stronger conference foe

Also this will be James’ age 42 season. Brad didn’t make the trade for the sake of 2026-27. Right or wrong, the move was made so that Tatum & the Celtics would have more success long term. 2027-28, 2028-29, 2029-30, etc.

LeBron isn’t going to be a factor long term. 29 NBA teams all valued JB much less than NBA experts thought. If Brad had accepted a worse offer from another team, just to make sure James doesn’t join JB in PHI & then he signs in CLE, we’d be in worse shape.

We’ll have a better idea on whether or not Brad Stevens made the right call trading Jaylen Brown in a yr after we see how JT & the Celtics fare as well as JB & the 76ers. Then even more so after seeing what the FRP’s become.

The fact that Brown reportedly is willing to sacrifice & not have an ego in PHI has no bearing on what would have happened in Boston.

This happens all the time where a player is willing to change once he gets to his new team. Examples: Ray Allen off the bench in MIA. And Shaq calling the Heat Wade’s team upon arrival (and finally getting back into better shape).

Just bc Brown won’t be upset w/ PHI when they don’t give him the extra $142 mil extension this summer doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be upset w/ BOS. And imagine how he would feel when/if JT gets it next summer?

If u decided you needed to trade Brown, u take the best offer. Doesn’t matter the team. Only cowards take lesser offers just to avoid having a player in conference or in your division (the latter means so little nowadays anyway).

Ainge took the best offer for Pierce/KG despite it being from an in division contender & it worked out well.

Ideally BOS would have gotten more for JB, but u can’t force a team to pay more than the market is valuing a 60 mil per yr, high usage player whose analytics aren’t elite.
