Wishing more psych researchers shared this attitude with Freud (1917):
"Am I not confusing you by so often taking back what I have said or qualifying it—by starting up trains of thought and then dropping them? I should be sorry if that were so. But I have a strong dislike of simplifying things at the expense of truthfulness. I have no objection to your receiving the full impact of the many-sidedness and complexity of our subject."
Pope Leo XIV on AI:
“Artificial intelligence needs to be disarmed. The word [disarmed] is strong I know, but deliberately chosen because this moment needs words capable of attracting attention, awakening consciences, and indicating paths forward for humanity.”
Some therapists speak of
trauma work
shadow work
family of origin work
dream work
parts work
attachment work
as if they were separate things or special skills.
Psychodynamic therapists don’t use these terms. They’re all just the bread and butter of psychotherapy.
*Any* meaningful course of psychotherapy includes all or most of these elements.
We also have a special name for these ways of working. We call it “psychotherapy.”
Doctors did such a good job screaming from the rafters that there is a doctor shortage and they need help, that it is leading to their own extinction with the exponential rise in less qualified “providers” through online diploma mills that Big Healthcare favors because they are cheaper labor which helps the bottom line, which we all know is the only metric that matters

FACT-CHECK:
As a psychiatrist, I regularly meet people living with schizophrenia and families trying to understand what their loved one is going through. Over the last few days, many have asked about a viral video claiming schizophrenia is not related to dopamine but caused by a “leaky thalamus” that overwhelms the brain with sensory information.
The thalamus is definitely important. It helps filter and relay information in the brain; and disturbances in these pathways have been studied in schizophrenia for many years. Difficulties in sensory processing and attention may partly arise from these circuit abnormalities.
At the same time, schizophrenia cannot be explained by a single mechanism. Dopamine remains important. Genetics, brain development, stress, trauma, inflammation and multiple brain networks are also involved. The condition is biologically complex.
The video also gives the impression that medicines only “cover up” symptoms. That is not accurate. Antipsychotic medicines are not perfect and side effects can occur, but they have helped tons of patients regain stability, reduce hallucinations and paranoia, avoid relapse, continue education or work, and reconnect with family life.
Research on metabolism, nutrition, exercise, sleep, and brain energy systems is growing and may improve future treatment approaches. These are promising areas of study, but they are not replacements for established treatment at present.
Short social media videos often present one part of a much larger scientific picture as a complete explanation. Real clinical science is rarely that simple.
Anyone considering changes in treatment should first speak with their treating psychiatrist.

learning how to tell when advice is really just someone else’s regret in disguise. your divorced friend cautioning you about marriage, your broke uncle’s take on investments, your unhappy parent steering your career.
they are not advising you. they are processing themselves. once you learn to hear the wound behind the words you stop letting lost people give you directions.
The white house is sick. Using AI to make this peaceful protestor’s skin darker and make it seem as though she was hysterically crying, when she was not, is disgusting. This administration’s racism and hate for American citizens and our principles become more apparent by the day.
As an American citizen it is intensely offensive to me that we would spend this kind of money on Greenland when we don’t have universal healthcare, mandatory maternity leave, good public schools or any sort of social services.
You need to understand that this is by design. Working-class people used to be shockingly literate. The rich and powerful have built a society where most folks are addicted to screens because mass literacy threatens them. They want you to be stupid. We resist them by reading.
