The NLMA represents and supports a united medical profession and provides leadership in the provision of excellent health care in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Today, on World Family Doctor Day, we celebrate the extraordinary and unique role family physicians play in improving the health of our communities.
Family Physicians are often the first point of care and a constant presence throughout a person’s life — providing comprehensive and continuity of medical care when it matters most.
Their breadth of training enables them to see the full picture of a patient’s health, while their longstanding relationships offer a depth of understanding that cannot be replaced. They know their patients, understand their histories, and guide them through every stage of health and healing.
Family physicians bring together medical expertise and a commitment to whole-person care in a way that is foundational to a strong and effective health care system.
We are deeply grateful for the dedication of family physicians across Newfoundland and Labrador. Your impact is lasting, and your role in our health care system is truly irreplaceable.

As Resident Doctors Appreciation Week 2026 begins, I would like to take a moment to recognize and thank the resident doctors across our province for the care they provide to patients every day.
Resident doctors are on the front lines of our health care system, learning, teaching, and delivering compassionate care under immense pressure. Their commitment helps make health care better for all of us, now and for generations to come.
This week, we recognize Resident Doctors Appreciation Week and thank physician residents for the dedication, compassion, and long hours of excellent medical care they bring to patients every day.
Your commitment to learning and to your patients strengthens our health care system and communities across the province.
Thank you for all that you do!
