The Curse of Work: A Tale of Genesis and Auschwitz.
Genesis 3 vs 17: And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
3 vs19: In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
This is the first mention of 'hard work' in the Bible, not something admirable or intrinsic to the human condition but a curse and punishment for disobedience.

"Arbeit Macht Frei" read the gate at Auschwitz or "Work shall set you free" and work they certainly did.
In scenes that would be familiar to ancestors many centuries ago in Egypt, the Jews at Auschwitz worked 11 hour days with barely any rest.
Surely, no one worked harder and yet when their salvation came, it wasn't from their efforts. That had only brought them pain, starvation and death.

Humanity has wrestled with the concept of work throughout it's history, but perhaps none more so than in recent times with the end of it so near.
There has been a lot of debate on the timeline about what it would mean to be human when we no longer need to work, my humble contribution is rather simple - perhaps work was never something to be aspired to or an act that made us human but rather a burden that we are about to shed.
One of the puzzles I have is that the French don't have a reputation for autism, even though we are one of the most autistic nations on Earth: we invented French gardens, the metric system, we administratively divided our nation into little squares that are not related to history or geography because it made us feel better, we're one of the world's top math nations, all French philosophy is basically about how the key to life the universe and everything is abstract spergy logic-chopping...
@svix_enjoyoor@edgefills a real coach wouldn't have called up (or presumably play) portugal? what good did that do for brazil?
you send off your legends properly. you make what adjustments you must but you send them off properly
@edgefills sad to say but these people are spiritually ugly.
if a person is unable or unwilling to recognise excellence in the physical world, how am i to trust their judgment anywhere else?
There is a genre of man that doesn’t like watching sports at all. Beware of this ugly type. His psyche refuses to share in the passion of feats of athleticism and glory. He pretends it’s all silly games. He looks down on fans. This is a communist dork spirit. Unable to see the beauty of elite movements
@edgefills any such win would be hollow and undeserving of the name.
perhaps his teammates didn't hate but nothing i have seen them say rings of respect.
what's perhaps painful to witness is the joy people seem to derive from this. sub him off. he should be retired.
please shut up
