Voting for the supposed ‘lesser evil’ for fifty years has only dragged the standard down so the next ‘lesser evil’ is even worse, but sure, this time it’s super important to repeat the exact same bullshit that delivered us a president who burns kids alive in front of the world
I feel stupid and ashamed. In May, an expose came out on CNN detailing the abuses in Sde Taiman. Then, the NYT released their own article on it. Both were backed up with Israeli sources, crossed with Palestinian ones.
I dismissed them because my government sources and Israeli media denied them. My whole life I was told that the international media was out to get Israel. That they were all antisemites.
But today, I realized how much I was lied to. By my country. By my friends. By my media. Today, many of the people I talked to who denied these allegations admitted they were true.
And the worst part? None of this is coming to light because the IDF and government have changed their hearts about it. Its coming out because the pressure from the UK, ICC and ICJ was getting too great to ignore. This would get Netanyahu, Gallant and the Chief of Staff in serious trouble. So they finally said the truth. That Israel is routinely torturing inmates. That sexual abuse is fairly common there. That people have been tortured to death.
Worst of all, many of the people in this facility were innocent. Rounded up by accident. But there was no real verification process before they were subjected to this hell on earth.
This can't go on.
This public comment, from an elected representative, is indicative of the public mood in Israel since 7 October: that Israelis can commit the most heinous crimes, including sexual torture against detainees, justified by a deep and genocidal sense of victimhood.
Are these practices "barbaric" only when others commit them, but "civilised" when Israel commits them for months to no end against THOUSANDS of detainees (without trial)?
Such a dominant mood will not allow a proper investigation nor punishment, even if there is someone in Israel is willing to try, as today's events, and the previous case of soldier-killer Elor Azaria show.
The dehumanisation of the Palestinian people is so absolute, that if you looked for examples, you'd never stop.
But please, take a moment here.
If these were elderly Israeli women being released from Hamas captivity, it would be global news. We know this, because it happened.
'There is a genocide happening right now in Gaza, it has been so destroyed it is literally a different colour from space.'
At the end of WWII, this country looked at the bodies and promised we would never allow these kinds of atrocities to happen again. This monument reminds us of those who gave their lives fighting a genocide, and that ‘never again’ means never again for anyone.
Young people are resisting everywhere, & we need your help -> https://t.co/QeP69INtQ2
Spain has joined the South African genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice.
What needs to happen is the General Assembly needs to forcefully use #UnitingForPeace to begin implementing ICJ orders against Israel. See my piece: https://t.co/YmYAPLcHcJ
JULIAN ASSANGE IS FREE
Julian Assange is free. He left Belmarsh maximum security prison on the morning of 24 June, after having spent 1901 days there. He was granted bail by the High Court in London and was released at Stansted airport during the afternoon, where he boarded a plane and departed the UK.
This is the result of a global campaign that spanned grass-roots organisers, press freedom campaigners, legislators and leaders from across the political spectrum, all the way to the United Nations. This created the space for a long period of negotiations with the US Department of Justice, leading to a deal that has not yet been formally finalised. We will provide more information as soon as possible.
After more than five years in a 2x3 metre cell, isolated 23 hours a day, he will soon reunite with his wife Stella Assange, and their children, who have only known their father from behind bars.
WikiLeaks published groundbreaking stories of government corruption and human rights abuses, holding the powerful accountable for their actions. As editor-in-chief, Julian paid severely for these principles, and for the people's right to know.
As he returns to Australia, we thank all who stood by us, fought for us, and remained utterly committed in the fight for his freedom.
Julian's freedom is our freedom.

It’s comical isn’t it? You have Rishi apologising for leaving France early and bleating on about how he expressed his gratitude to War veterans…. He is always so embarrassingly eager to plant his British flag in the soil and claim allegiance to it, presumably to impress the overwhelmingly nationalistic Tory membership… What he forgets is that when given the opportunity, that same membership voted for a blinkered woman, outlasted by a lettuce, over him.
The Tory membership took a huge right turn years ago and they have never embraced the idea of being led by a man whose very skin is emblematic of his immigrant heritage. Many of those Tory members are ex UKIP and have more loyalty to overt scumbags like Farage than their own unelected leader…
Then there’s Keir… painfully slow and desperate to jump on right-wing bandwagons so defunct that no one can remember whose stupid idea it was to ever ride in one. He left his integrity at the door the moment he entered the corridors of power.
Watching these two debate was like watching a rewrite of Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot”, where the only two men on stage talk in circles oblivious to the futility of their hollow and clichéd words. Like the play, I was just trying to figure out whose trousers would fall down first…
Why are these two sheep allowing the national agenda to be set by those who most of us would cross the road to avoid?
Get off immigration and start talking about real issues…
Farage is not your puppet master.
He is an indelible stain on the character of this country.
FYI Queers for Palestine know EXACTLY what they are supporting: the liberation of an occupied, dehumanized, oppressed people. I know its hard for you to imagine, but queer politics has always been rooted in justice for the oppressed, not pride floats
@RTVWOW It's great news, and the uni has done well, but we were ahead of the curve – there was a student occupation by GAAF in Jan, and as a result of this and pressure from all of the staff unions there is already a vote on divestment from the arms trade at University Court in June.
It should be much bigger news that Dartmouth’s Chair of Jewish Studies has been banned from campus for trying to defend her students.
Many of these protesters are Jewish.
Many of these faculty members are Jewish.
Calling these protesters antisemitic is putting them in danger.
Any government that attempts to enforce the notion, through legislation or arrests, that protesting against the slaughter of innocent civilians, including huge numbers of women and children, is “mob rule” or “hate marches” is evil. Pure and simple. There is no counter-argument. That is an evil government.
