Europe spends $550bn a year on defence, more than China and Russia combined. Even without the US, Europe is the most heavily defended continent on Earth.

US bases in Europe cost approx 3.5% of the US annual defence budget and deliver outsized strategic power.

That isn’t charity. It’s central to US strategy.
