Caste. We have to call out the elephant in the room. Sri Lanka is dominantly Buddhist. Ditto, Thailand. There is no designated community which cleans up. You create a mess, you clean up. No matter who you are. If you throw garbage on the road, you pay a stiff fine whether you are a CEO or a cook or a cleaning lady. And you put out your own trash. There is no shame in doing that.

Garbage is tossed around anywhere and everywhere in India because it is assumed that someone else will clean up. That’s not the ground reality in other countries.
