Why #PayRaiseForDoctors?

Just look at one hospital: Lady Reading Hospital.

A House Officer earns 64k.
A TMO earns 77k.
A Medical Officer earns 102k.

In the same hospital, a Technician earns 80k, a Class 4 employee around 70k, and a Nurse earns 110k.

This is not against any worker. Every hospital worker deserves respect and fair pay.

But the story is simple:

The doctor who studies for years, handles emergencies, signs prescriptions, takes clinical risk, faces attendants, works night duties, and carries life-and-death responsibility is being paid like his responsibility doesn’t matter.

One hospital is enough to expose the whole problem.

This is not a luxury demand.
This is a fairness demand.
This is a patient-safety demand.

Imagine after 17 years of education and 1 year of house job, you finally get an FCPS seat at age 26–27 and earn only 100k–110k for the next 3–5 years!

Most Pakistani doctors belong to middle-class families, with families depending on them after graduation.

30-hour duties, hectic routines, harsh timings ,and in the end, just 100k–110k!

Doctors’ salaries must be raised.

This issue must be addressed at the highest level!

What are these judges doing for the nation which doctors aren’t?

House rent allowance increased suddenly from 65k to 350k for Supreme Court judges and this is just one allowance besides their salary!

On the other hand, doctors’ salaries have remained the same for the last 5 years despite the dollar rising by 100% and petrol prices by 270%.

This exploitation needs to end, otherwise no doctor would want to serve the nation!

So many private medical colleges opened despite limited jobs and training seats. Was long-term planning ever done?

It has a doctor-retention problem.

We spend years training doctors, but low pay, inflation, unsafe working conditions and crushing workload push them toward private practice, foreign exams, migration or career change.

The result is simple:

Pakistan trains doctors.

Other countries benefit from them.

Fair pay is not charity.

Fair pay is retention policy.

A pay raise for doctors is not charity.

It is health-system protection.

Minimum wage in Punjab is Rs40,000/month for 8-hour duty, Rs192/hour.

Many young doctors earn around Rs65,000–70,000/month after MBBS, house job, night duties, emergency calls and 80–100 hour weeks.

At 100 hours/week:

Rs70,000/month doctor ≈ Rs161/hour
Minimum-wage worker ≈ Rs192/hour

This means a doctor can be earning less per hour than minimum wage.

Fair pay means:

• doctors stay
• wards remain staffed
• patients wait less
• public hospitals become stronger

Pakistan cannot build a strong healthcare system by underpaying the people who run it day and night.

Respect doctors.
Retain doctors.
Protect patients.
