Despite having once been extremely focused on Oakland's high number of homicides, the fact that Oakland is likely to have its 3rd consecutive lowest homicides in over 1/2 a century means nothing to loacl media. They've found new crime panics to focus on now that their fave is out

Importance of this story given national rejection of Flock can't be exaggerated. Oakland is under no obligation to keep using Flock, and needn't wait to move on to another vendor or end its surveillance project. OTOH, it means City has misled public about current Flock capacities
