Some trading concepts I learned back in 2012. Like the engulfing candle…My second year trading.
So simple, and repeats all the time… since the advent of markets and candlestick charts.
Yet it took me almost a DECADE to make it work.
That’s when I realized that trading has very little to do with having a winning strategy and everything to do with human behavior.
My darkest demons had nothing to do with markets.
My mother passed from cancer a week before my high school graduation.
My father was smoking two packs a day to cope, and I just knew it was a matter of time before he would battle the same fate.
I was depressed, looking for an escape. That escape was trading. I poured everything into it (it used to be video games, not healthy).
But I didn’t realize the baggage I was carrying was why I was a terrible trader.
I had so many bottled up emotions that I just couldn’t think straight.
Your trading is a reflection of character and poise. No matter who your teacher or mentor is.. the only teacher that matters is the one you see when you look into a mirror.
I, like many of you, was searching for the right person to help fix me. Traders with results. Traders who were professionals. Traders who could show me the way. That path only led me down the road of using someone else as a scapegoat for my failures.
In this game, you need to learn how to fix yourself and own your shit.
Stop looking for excuses. Stop blaming others when things aren’t working out.
The lessons you learn inside and out of the markets will change who you are as a person. How you think, your decision making, and your calculation of risk will NEVER be the same after trading.
You start out on this journey alone, and climb the mountain alone. There’s help along the way, but ultimately it’s you putting one foot in front of another.
It’s a true test of will and determination.
You have to want to change badly enough to make this work. No intervention is successful unless the person who needs help wants to actually fix themselves.
If you want to FIX what’s broken, it starts and ends with YOU.
Very small L on the day.
Price was pretty choppy, so I was just watching price action most of the morning. My DOL was lower and I saw my model on ES. I put my stop on an SMT high with NQ and got stopped out. Losses are okay as long as they are small. On to the next.
1/2 on the day.
Took two trades, one for a win and one for a loss. Both targeting price in the same direction. On the first entry, the iFVG was very small so it wasn't the highest quality. The second, I entered on a pure iFVG and targeted BSL. Snuck in some profit on the day.
A very well-executed trade this morning. NQ came up and took London high and formed SMT. It swept the high, my model was presented, and I entered the trade. LTF entry in line with the HTF narrative. Simple as that. Great way to end the week.
Loss on the day. I felt I had a clear DOL, but sometimes price has a mind of its own. I will say the entry was not the highest quality, and I was unaware of my model playing out in the opposite direction. Luckily, the loss was small. On to the next.
1/1 on the day. I was expecting price to take CPI high and it had also hit 2-2.5 std. dev. of the original manipulation leg. I saw my entry model, waited for market open, and executed. A very quick and clean 3.6R trade.
Took 2 trades today, one for a loss and one for a win. The first one I took, I was deep in profit and price came back to hit my adjusted stop. Once I noticed price was reversing, I flipped my bias and entered a position targeting buyside liquidity. This led to a profitable day.
I was able to collect a little money from the market today, even with it's conditions. There was sell-side liquidity resting below that I wanted to get hit. Price came up and stopped me in profit before moving in that direction. A little frustrating, but I wanted to limit risk.
President's Day win.
Price action was not very efficient today but we still got it done. Price rebalanced into a 1hr vol imb and also hit 2-2.5 std dev, while putting in an SMT. Waited for manipulation on the LTF, then CISD and targeted equilibrium of the current price range.
Small win to end the week.
Price had rebalanced into a 4hr FVG and took Asia low. It then inverted a 1hr FVG and I waited for the CISD and retracement back into it on the hourly. I then entered on a 1min Forever Model. This was a very high confluence trade in my opinion.
Small L on the day.
I was true to my model today. Had a 5min buy-side manipulation, iFVG, and a retrace into the CISD. Price just didn't move in my favor. This is a good loss to take because it was a quality setup.
Quick and simple trade this morning.
Price had tapped into 4hr FVG. I waited for manipulation of the lows and targeted buy-side. My original entry got stopped out but I re-entered for a 1.1R trade. I could've held this one longer, but I'll take the low-hanging fruit.
Just a reminder that not everything will be perfect all the time.
Some days you won’t feel motivated or happy or just plain good
And that’s okay
We often fall into our own pits of confusion at times and let our selves spiral for literally no reason just because it’s our defense mechanism
“Why don’t I feel good?”
And then our brain runs every possible circumstance and theory as to why our life needs change.
I woke up this morning feeling confused. I’ve been thinking a lot about my future and finances. I just felt uneasy.
It’s easy to forget what to do in these moments, so here is a 3 step process I follow.
1: Sit with it for a bit,
- a lot of times we get more frustrated in these moments but I like to turn it on its head and realize it’s not scary so just face what’s on your mind. Take some time to reflect on what’s bothering you
2: Journal about it
- Write what you’re feeling and everything going through your thoughts
3: Bring it to God
- Escape to the hiding place and lay your problems to God, and trust that you will receive an answer.
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
– Matthew 11:28-30
