@martinmrmar Skip this version and get yourself the one written by S. Radhakrishnan. It has less theology and more philosophy with little to no personal nonsense
Saksham
& Aanchal.
One a Dalit.
The other an OBC.
Aanchal’s family murders Saksham.
Aanchal ‘marries’ his corpse.
Is there no escaping caste violence?
Sociology teacher here
(and deeply disturbed by this incident)
- Higher the patriarchal nature of society, higher is the urge to get a higher Dowry (to ascertain and then show off groom’s worth)
And if a groom gets lower dowry, the self-assumed worth gets a hit in the eyes of “saamaaj”
So, a lot of times, dowry is sought not only to do “aish” but also to ascertain the value of the “ladka” and superiority of “ladke waale”
A brilliant sociologist, Deepankar Gupta, considers that dowry’s glorification is the manifestation of consumerism
But then, there’s also a very famous Indian sociologist (M.N. Srinivas) who in his book ‘Some Reflections on Dowry’ equates dowry deaths to failure of modern state
The harshest analysis comes from Bina Aggarwal who considers dowry as saamaaj’s reaffirmation of the worthlessness of women
But if you read V. Geetha’s book “Patriarchy” you find that dowry might be the manifestation of denial of inheritance to women
All of them very uniquely Indian (or to say, greatly practiced in our subcontinent)
Here, being an Indian, I personally also believe that the practice of virilocality (staying at groom’s house after marriage) alienates a woman from her parental support system (and makes her dependent on her husband’s family)
And also makes bride’s parents falsely live in an assumption that her new home is her final destination and that they can’t and shouldn’t participate in what is believed to be now their daughter’s “personal matter”
The daughter, suddenly, becomes the most helpless while becoming the most vulnerable in her entire life
Baaki you must have also heard the common phrase that “ek aurat hi aurat ki dushman hoti hai”, which finds place in sociology too as the concept of “patriarchal bargain”, where women like Saasu Maa go to all extents to keep the status of her Bahu to the lowest so that Saasu Maa herself could stay relevant in a men’s world
All of this, the fake egos of males, their parents, the self-effaced respect of women and their ghar waale, the notion of saamaaj and what will it say continues to stay rent-free in everyone’s head and the idea that marriage is the most important milestone of life, comes together and makes the lives of so many brides and their parents unbearable yet with no escape
Only way out I see is sheer rebel by the women against everyone who pressurises them AND a promise from state that such rebellious women will be protected from the samaaj
And since it’s a difficult thing to do, we’ll continue seeing more such cases..
That, such cases will happen for sure, just that we don’t know with whom 🙏
VIDEO | Raja Raghuvanshi murder case: Author and philosopher Acharya Prashant (@Advait_Prashant) says, "When situations involving marital affairs arise, our entire focus often shifts to finding the culprit and delivering justice. However, in the process of labelling one person as the villain, we sometimes overlook the deeper, underlying issues. We've seen a rise in such incidents, and there are several contributing factors, one of them being early marriages, where individuals often find themselves trapped in relationships they weren’t fully prepared for..."

Even if given for free, discard the ISKCON version of Gita
No one abused the Bhagavad Gita more than these people
Flawed philosophy and hence flawed interpretation of the text
An ISKCON guy is selling Bhagwat Geeta in train. You can pay any amount or even no amount.
I know this will irritate some people, but only ISKCON & some other small organisations like this will save Hinduism & make it global.
When we look at Upanishads, we find the knwledge of an infinite truth that's completely opposite to the shallow conclusions of European thinkers. We are compelled to kneel before the East and acknowledge that this is the birthplace of the highest human philosophy.
