Scarlet Heart Thailand also features a dancing peacock motif, a symbol deeply rooted in Myanmar's historical heritage. The dancing peacock has appeared on Konbaung's national flag, coat of arms, state seals & coins.

GMMTV's logic: Oh, We can't use our traditional costumes because of strict laws, so letโs copy our neighbors' instead.
If it's a fantasy drama, create your own costumes and dances. Don't borrow other cultures without proper acknowledgment.

LOL, putting the costume controversy aside for a moment, there's something you might not know about Thailand. ๐
We actually have very strict laws concerning the monarchy. Under Section 112, certain forms of speech about the monarchy can carry prison sentences of 3โ15 years. And yes, people have actually gone to prison over this. This isn't a joke.
So imagine trying to write a fictional Thai royal drama full of scheming princes, betrayals, power struggles, and a fight for the throne. That's a pretty sensitive area for a production company to navigate. ๐
It doesn't mean Thai historical royal dramas are completely forbidden, but creative freedom around royal portrayals comes with very real risks.
I can't say whether that's why GMMTV chose the fictional city of Ullavee, but you can probably see why a fictional setting might be appealing.
If u choose to portray another country's history, you have a responsibility to research it properly and represent it accurately. OUR HISTORY AND CULTURE ARE NOT JUST AESTHETICS FOR ENTERTAINMENT. If inaccuracies have been made, take accountability.

Geographically, Rakhine State is located in western Myanmar, whereas Shan State lies in the east. The cultures of Myanmarโs various ethnic groups have their own identities and traditions, and should not be assumed to be interchangeable.
Apart from the use of Konbaung-era attire, the oil lamp dance is not a Shan cultural tradition. Rather, it is a traditional dance associated with the Rakhine people, reportedly dating back to approximately 900โ950 AD.
Why am I seeing Burmese traditional clothes ????
Most of the characters are wearing Shan culture from Myanmar . But I donโt want to blame because Thai and Shan have similarities.
But these clothes in these pictures are Burmese dresses from Yadanabon Era.
