What my friends at ACC say about me: I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. Thor was at the front of the kennel, chatty and curious, and immediately ate treats. When the kennel door was opened, he remained at the front and appreciated all petting on his head, cheeks, and along his back. He was very calm when picked up and held and remained so when set back down, and then ate squeeze up treats. He's a good boy who might have a slight tendency to overstimulate. Thor tolerates attention and petting but may overstimulate and has a history of biting and swatting during interactions in the shelter. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in overstimulation, petting induced aggression, nervous cat behavior and or a tendency to become ramped up. A volunteer writes: Thor deserves well his name. He is a handsome, elegant and smartly dressed gent, may be a little timid but very sweet and appreciative of petting and sweet words. Thor came to us without any other information than having some urinary troubles for possibly a few months. He seems to have been well cared for by his former family who could not afford his veterinary care. Thor is now much better and on a special diet to prevent the formation of stones in his urine. He is a sweet and good looking middle aged gentleman, a bit shy but who after some "pep talks" leans into pets, purrs and even starts playing with feather wands. He is well mannered and performed very well on his behavior evaluation. Thor would love to be a beloved pet once again and may be it could be with you! UPDATE: Thor has been with us for over a month now. His patience, his exemplary behavior and sweetness have no boundaries. A cat like him so deserves a loving home. Spending time with him feels good. He is always available, kind and well mannered. Yes, there is soo much competition:the kittens, the younger cats and those who are not on a special diet. Thor has lots against him but he is a very sweet cat who will give a lot of love, comfort and loyalty to his new family. Will you consider Thor for your new forever best friend? ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻

They require a course of Itraconozole, an antifungal medication that is taken by mouth every day for a few weeks. Ringworm can be transmissible to humans and other animals, so it's important to keep them separate from other pets in the home, wash hands after playing with them, and perhaps have a specific set of clothes to wear when interacting with them. Giving them lyme sulfur dip baths a couple of times per week can also help to minimize risk of spreading. It's also a good idea to make sure fabrics in the room they are housed in are washed frequently - who knew adopting a kitty with ringworm would be a great way to help you stay on top of your household cleaning too? This evaluation/diagnosis means that these will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥

💔 Toby’s world didn’t just change… it shattered.

We met Toby (#V28985) when he was just a puppy. He grew up in a home, doing his best to navigate painful skin allergies with the people he loved. But when his care became too much, he was returned to us at 8 years old.

Then, a miracle - he found a foster through our Pet Sponsorship Program. For years, he knew comfort again. A soft place to land. Someone who understood him. Someone who loved him.

And then… in an instant, it was gone.

A sudden medical emergency took that person away from him, and at 12 years old, Toby is back in a kennel. Alone. Confused. Heartbroken.

A volunteer writes: Yosemite was found sitting frozen on a blanket with other cats in the park. Too scared to move or enjoy the food that had been left out for them, it seems like this group was all just hoping for the best but expecting much less. Fortunately for Yosemite and company, things started moving in the right direction when someone scooped them up and brought them to us. It's unlikely Yosemite interpreted this as a best case scenario because the shelter really does have quite a lot going on, maybe even too much for a quiet guy like Yosemite, but we've been working to convince him that sometimes the best comes in steps and even baby steps at that. Crouching in the back of his cubby, he didn't seem very interested in the toys, treats, or pets I had to offer, but I have to believe that Yosemite is only waiting for his chance. Another volunteer writes: Yosemite more recently decided to come out of his shell. He is sits more and more on his balcony or rests in his "living room". He is definitively interested in seeing people but has still a very hard time to trust us, even those he has seen the faces again and again. Yosemite likes to play though as you can see on his photos. He enjoys catnip toys and feather wands. He occasionally will accept a brief pet on his head when he samples treats.
