Excited to share that my poem “Omi O L’ota” has won the poetry category of the 2024 Augur’s Annual Micro-Fiction Contest!
Many thanks to @augursociety for this wonderful recognition.
There used to be a newspaper vendor in front of Federal Palace Hotel. He would let me read all the dailies for free under the almond tree where he kept them. His face would light up whenever he saw me. I hope life has been kind to him.
If I wanted to maintain my current standard of living, but in Nigeria, it would cost too much to be realistic.
Nigerian prices are way too expensive in USD terms despite having such a devalued currency, and I don't understand how everyone is quiet.
That country is stupidly expensive for no reason at all🤷🏾
I traveled the length and breadth of Nigeria in 2014. All those road trips to cities across the country. The beautiful memories. It wasn’t just affordable, but safe. I did this as a corps member on less than N20,000 monthly stipend. APC are truly a curse.
An absolute stranger walking up to me on the streets of Birmingham to say they appreciate my work, that they’d listened to my album and watched me on YouTube, and then politely asking for a hug was not how I expected my day to start. ❤️
