I feel like our country has become a victim of Stockholm syndrome. If you’re not familiar with that term, it means when people start cooperating with their Doors or kidnappers in order to avoid getting hurt further. Everyone including the Democratic Party and the press and a large swap of American people are just watching this outrage take place and basically just sit there and watch it like helpless sheep. What really alarmed me as a psychologist is knowing how this has activated lot of trauma for people who grew up with abuse histories in families where their parents did not protect them and let them grow up in fear. Little kids have no way out when they’re small. I have said this all my career they don’t have keys to the house. They don’t have a car. They can’t drive. They don’t have money and they don’t have the maturity to know how to go take care of themselves so they are hostages and that is what makes childhood family abuse so destructive because for many many years, the child will not escape it until they grow up probably. It leaves a lasting scar, I assure you. And now I feel like our whole country is being treated like this and for those who have experienced it already in childhood it is exponentially more triggering. I don’t think people understand how serious this is.
