The pay of doctors and other healthcare works is not going to improve.

You may think our elders and the government don't know what they're doing but they do.

These people may look foolish but they're the most calculating and evil people on earth.

Those in the ministry of health have noticed that most doctors often Japa in the training phase, that is housemanship and residency.

And in most hospital, resident and house officers are the workhorse of the medical team.

Some years back, a reg could save for a few months and write Plab or USMLE and be on his way out.

Those at the top knows this. They know if they pay us more, it gives us more options.

So, they'll rather commit seppuku than do that.

This is why they are trying the experiment of delaying house officers pay. Soon, they'll commence it on federal residents.

They will keep paying these peanuts, such that we're so focused on surviving on the peanuts that we don't even consider Japa.

If you see a lot of what is being proposed, all those specialists allowance and the likes, it's all for SRs and consultants.

That's why they also cancelled MRTF for first year residents.

As for house officers and residents, the shege is just getting started.

I doubt Nigeria has up to 55,000 doctors.
I think the real figure might be around 30k or less.
Because I know so many doctors who have Japa and many of in Nigeria who are not actively practicing.
There's no future for healthcare in Nigeria I'm sorry.

I disagree.
A lot of newly graduated, especially Gen Z have dropped the 'I must suffer to prove myself' attitude.
They see how their seniors toil for the stupid salaries of sub 400k and ended up living miserable lives.
They've realized that working for peanuts is not worth it.
They are not lazy.
They're just brutally honest.
Pay them better and see if they don't work. It's not easy to pass medical school.

The owner has increased school by at least 4x in the last 5 years.
However he is yet to double the salary of his highest paid teachers.
The highest his teacher still gets is 130k.
And I heard he starts with new teacher with as low as 65k.
In a sane country, the school would be shut down last year.
But we are in Nigeria.
Where the abnormal is normal.
